Anyone seen Moore's "Capitalism"? Packed and fired up or sparse and apathetic?

I'm wondering how Michael Moore's new film, "Capitalism: A Love Story" will do on it's opening day (Fri Oct 2). Will it will be packed full of excited activists like F911, or if it will be slow and sparse?

There have been no TV ads in my city (Tucson, AZ) and the only exposure has been Moore on the talk show circuit.

Over the course of this afternoon and this evening, we will see how it does.

Anyone who's been already...let us know how well it was attended and the feel of the audience during and after the film.

  • Creepy ass cracker.
Somehow someone who made a lot of money under capitalism making a movie bitching about that system seems kind of hypocritical.
Then again John Lennon sang about "imagine no possessions" yet he kept all his stuff.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

11. Your handle and avatar don't fit you very well at all, I've noticed.

On behalf of John Lennon, I'd like to ask you to change avatars. Thank you.

Apparently, Moore's movie has tanked.  I think it was because the hypocrisy was so blatant, people couldn't stomach it.  Here is the last entry from this thread, a very small bonfire.  No further response.

A DUmmy tells the truth. :-)

I've seen promos for it quite frequently on ESPN & other sports channels.  Don't know why they targeted that audience.  Obviously, it didn't work. :evillaugh:

CNN's Headline News channel gave Joy Beyhar her own show and he was her first guest.  Between her and that ridiculous Jane Velez Mitchell, it looks like they're trying to beat MSNBC to the Worst Channel on Television award.

Box office results have answered that question. A total flop.

With a muslim in the White House, it's hard to get the lunatics fired up.

And, with a muslim in the White House, they can't afford to buy tickets.

 :-)

I listen to an "alternative" music station often, and they were talking about it a lot on Friday.  Didn't hear a thing about it today.  Typical libs, all talk, no action.

How about hypocritical, boring, bound for the $1 DVD bin, and possibly carrying an anti-Semitic subtext?  That's just what I gather from reports of course, I am too much of a Capitalist to spend $10 on a ticket when there are so many ways I could use to oppress the Third World and our own downtrodden...possibly new steel heel plates for my down-treading boots, for instance...

You wouldn't automaticaly expect it?  How can capitalism be properly slammed without slapping around the Jews behind it?  Those greedy Jews.  Those nasty awful Jews invented capitalism, don'cha know.

The most striking thing in the movie was the religion. I think Moore is seriously motivated by Christianity. He says he is (and has been since he was a boy). And he presented various priests, Biblical quotations, and movie footage from "Jesus of Nazareth" to make the argument that Christianity requires socialism. With this theme, I found it unsettling that in attacking the banking system, Moore presented quite a parade of Jewish names and faces. He never says the word "Jewish," but I think the anti-Semitic theme is there. We receive long lectures about how capitalism is inconsistent with Christianity, followed a heavy-handed array of — it's up to you to see that they are — Jewish villains.

Am I wrong to see Moore as an anti-Semite? I don't know, but the movie worked as anti-Semitic propaganda. I had to struggle to fight off the idea the movie seemed to want to plant in my head.
http://althouse.blogspot.com/2009/10/some-thoughts-on-seeing-capitalism-love.html

I found this quote from Moore to be so very stooopid and proof that he knows nothing about capitalism.
Quote
Moore said: “Well, capitalism did nothing for me, starting with my first film.”
â€œYou know, I had to pretty much beg, borrow and steal,” he said. “The system is not set up to help somebody from the working class make a movie like this and get the truth out there.”
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/54833

Um , Michael, capitalism is all about people willing to take a risk with their own money to invest it in some product that they think will return a profit on their investment.  That is exactly what you did, by "beg, borrow and steal" to get your movie done.

I kinda assumed that he'd blame it on the "Neo-cons", but wasn't sure where he went with it exactly.

Thanks for the info, thundley.

"Neo-con" is just a euphemism democrats manufactured to use in place of "Jew", to avoid sounding
like the anti-Semitic bigots they are.

It's astounding that democrat candidates get big majorities of the Jewish vote, despite the anti-Semitic,
anti-Israeli, anti-business philosophy of the party.

Thanks thundley, I hadn't been back to the thread for awhile but I see you thoroughly handled the subtext issue.  I had picked up a reference to it on DUmmie FUnnies I believe.
