John Matrix here found me a new anthropologist, one of whom despite my degree in British history, I never heard, Sir Edward Tylor, 1832-1917. Or maybe he was described to me, but I wasn't paying attention.
This guy was pre-Margaret Mead, and created the science of "cultural anthropology."
And, as we all know, the primitives on Skins's island are definitely a sui generis sort of culture.
I contacted the library in the "big city," and yes, they had the guy's monumental work, a two-volume set, Primitive Culture. I'll go there Friday morning.
