DUmmy with a 26 year old frets over the kids health insurance
« on: November 24, 2013, 07:53:02 PM »
DUmmy with 26 year old "infant" asks what happens on the 27th birthday.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024087444

The Question:

Quote
star member CTyankee (37,429 posts) Sun Nov 24, 2013, 05:54 PM

What happens to 26 year olds currently on their parents' plan when after they reach 27 and have no health insurance? If their birthday is later than the open enrollment time now ticking away, how do they sign up? Is an automatic notice sent to them as the birthday nears, offering an Obamacare policy to them?

The Answer:

The kid no longer has health insurance.

Options are 1. get a job that has benefits, or 2. buy insurance through the exchanges like a good little comrad. As we all know, there are no problems with the ACA website, the problems are simple propaganda from the pukes and the republican controled media or 3. pay the penalty.

The second part of the question asks in effect will the little lamb get some kind of notice in the mail telling him/her that he/she needs to buy their own (ACA) insurance? Of course conservatives/rethuglicans/fundies are dumb, but to CTyankee this is a good question to ask.

CTyankee, allow me to educate you. Once your kid reaches the age that it is no longer on your insurance policy the kid no longer has health insurance. Simple as that. At 26-27 years of age, they are old enough to figure this out without the help of mommy.

1. Don't know, yank,
but will have to find out, as Julie will be in that situation! EXCEPT, OPM erroneously changed my Federal health coverage to 'Self-only' from Family in October, somehow messing up after John's death, and Julie learned a while ago that she was not covered. I've written to OPM, and hope they remedy this quickly! She's got 6 months left!

A DUmmy newb that hasn't learned that his fellow DUmmies are unable to figure out simple life questions, takes a logic laced shot at it:

I just don't get it.

At 17 I put myself into and through Pepperdine University.  I went straight from there and I had a full-time job when I was a Senior. I paid for my own school, insurance, apartment (yes, Lucky Beer, milk-carton/garage sale furniture) and other necessities.

It never even OCCURRED to me to ask my Mommy to take care of me. We had a great adult relationship and I listened to and took her advice and I miss her dearly.

I can't imagine being 26 and being a dependent on someone else's anything.  I would have killed myself rather than live with the shame.

I would urge all lurking DUmmies to tell their kids that are in their early twenties to go out and get their own policies even if they would qualify to stay on mommy and daddy's.  BarryCare desperately needs a huge influx of young healthy enrollees buying their own policies to keep from going into the death spiral.  This is a critical time for BarryCare.  Kick those little birds out of the nest for the good of the party.  Dear Leader will thank you.

:rotf:  I think it's hilarious that CTYank thinks that this administration and this program has the organization and wherewithal to recognize the upcoming birthdays of these 26 year olds, lovingly prepare appropriate insurance quotes and offerings, and get them in the mail 3 months in advance.  Has she been living under a rock?  Just look at her mindset.  The government will take you by the hand, and lead you where they need you to go.   You don't even need to do anything, just wait for the mail to show up.  Passive as a newborn.

Clearly something needs to be done about this. I think children should be allowed to stay on their parents insurance until 40. Then we can wean them from their mommy's tit onto the Govt tit. It is just too much to expect 26 yr olds to handle. Their brains aren't fully developed yet.

While I was not a home owner or business owner at 26 like some here, I was gainfully employed with my own health insurance, and had been for a solid 4 years or so (since graduation from college).

My brother, however, may well end up being one of those who gets kicked off the insurance at 26, I just found out that his college graduation (for his BA) is going to be delayed yet again (he is 24 now).

By the time he's 26 we will all be on one system, similar to a bad version of Medicaid.

Dr. Obama says, "Take two ass-burns and call me at election time."

ARGGHGG, in my time once you turned 18 you went into the twilight zone......Two young to drink beer but expected to give your life for your country.  The draft took kids of 18 into war zones but when back state side they could not legally sit on a hot afternoon and enjoy a cold one -----Yet they were allowed to travel far from home and kill the enemy.

So someone came up with the idea that 18 was a good age to  allow them adult status.  Only as voters but none of the rights the 21 year old had.

Interesting   times

Not bad....be proud of yourself.

At 26 I had a house paid for, new car & truck paid for and into the grading business with several pieces of equipment paid for.....sounds great, huh. All that hard work had already cost me a marriage, I just didn't know it for another 12 years.....then I had to pay for all that stuff again...well, half of it anyway.... :rotf:

I don't think one should be able to vote until they are 27. Sounds fair to me. The young stupid voters are going to wish they hadn't been able to vote and put in this imbecile into the white house.

Well, like a lot of single guys in their twenties, I couldn't afford it and didn't worry about it.  For four years from 23 to 27 I was doing my first Army enlistment, so I was covered then.  I couldn't afford it when I went back to grad school after that hitch, either, so I blew it off then, too.  Back in the Army after that, and I've been covered since then (Nowadays I could have been covered under what is now TriCare during grad school, since I was still a drilling Reservist, but that wasn't an option at the time).

The REAL answer the DUmmie wants to hear is "single-payer;" ie, all those rich republican GOP-type bastards should pay 100% of everyone's health care and condom-orama collection.
