Female Ark. prison guard killed checking on inmate
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—A convicted murderer stabbed a female guard to death at an east Arkansas prison Friday while she was investigating whether he had an unauthorized pair of shoes, a prison spokeswoman said.

Johnson, 30, was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder out of Jefferson County. He was sentenced in 2000 for killing his father. Prosecutors said Johnson was 18 at the time of the crime.

1. The article doesn't mention the name of the unit

View profile
At first, I thought it was at Tucker, but apparently it was at the East Arkansas Regional Unit.

At any rate, the person who murdered the guard was there for murdering his father, at 18 years of age. The guard was apparently attempting to take away away his contraband shoes. Contraband shoes?????? Again, I am not trying to defend this guy or what he did, but it sounds like he snapped after too many bullshit regulations like this one.

Prisons fault.

3. And thousands of other Arkansas inmates will pay the price

View profile
in lockdowns, denied visits that day (or for days)...as another DU'er said, I'm not excusing or making excuses, but I imagine the guards are undertrained and the inmates treated inhumanely.

The poor things.

Why not put the convicts in 23 hour lockdown, everyday. Problem solved.

34. There are far too many people here that would be right at home on that site not to be mentioned. They think the rest of the world is just like the world that they perceive around themselves. Too much black/white, us/them mentality.

A question for those right-wing slime-balls who complain about the wages government employees make: How much would YOU have to be paid to step into a prison to work for a living?

My 20th anniversary working for the Illinois Department of Corrections is next Friday.

I don't want the union-busting right-wing shitheads to scatter flower petals before me as I patrol a gallery, nor do I demand accolades, sonnets, or "attaboy" slaps on the back.

I want to send my kid to college.

That's it.

And I don't think that's too God-damn much to ask for.

Sucks to be you.

Your public sector unions have sucked the state dry. You'll be lucky to even draw 50 cents on the dollar of your promised pension.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

So if we had offed his murderous ass a decent and civilized person would still be alive. Thanks for making our points DUmbasses.

Well I agree dummy... the pay ain't too good for CO's. At least not around these parts.  Not for what those folks go thru. Now for the million dollar question dummy: You know the pay is low so why the hell have you spent 20 yrs working there?

I guess he snapped after all the 'bullshit regulations' his dad threw down on him too. Maybe like 'get a job and move out' at the age of 18?  :whatever: Seriously, how can anyone defend what happened here. This is why these morally vacuous idiots should never be in control of anything significant.

Well, JFC - these DUmmies prove day after day why our country is in such bad shape.  They vote in bleeding heart liberals who appoint wussy judges and then these same bleeding heart liberals go even further and breed more bleeding heart liberals without figuring out how to take care of them.  Because their children aren't taken care of, or properly raised, or given some direction in life, some of them end up in prison, and liberals wonder why we have to keep building prisons.

I don't mean to speak in generalizations here but liberal ideas and policies, and liberals promoting an entitlement mentality have led to what we see now.  A prison guard enforcing a rule and being brutally murdered by an inmate.  A male inmate on a female guard.  The next obvious question is whether the victim was white and the inmate was black.

It's too bad the DUmmies are too damn stupid to see how their utopian ideas of a "village," appeasement, and government-granted entitlements our becoming the downfall of our country.  Yet they will demand more and continue to vote in idiots like Pelosi, Reid, and Obama.

It's kind of hard to get outraged.

I think a woman who oversees killers in a prison, or who tries to arrest killers out on the street, or who goes into ground combat, is partly at fault whenever the result is lethal.

These jobs that occasionally, but critically, depend on physical strength are not the province of women. The liberal nutcase policy that anyone can do anything is just wrong, and women like this prison guard pay the price.

I see it just as stupid as if a zookeeper goes into the lion cage with sirloin steak tied to his back. Predators attack and kill the weak.

10. Thats not what they are saying.

When society allows little chance of a respectable dignified existence, an alternate source of pride is established. Be that gangs, or whatever.

Society has throwaways. They dont just accept that. In fact, they overco=mpensate. Those with the highest self esteem, are violent felons. We will reap the whirlwind, when the new breed of janitor children grow up. And get back at the society that relegated them to scrubbing pads.

How are men that get hassled for even the slightest delay is yes massah, gonna feel like being productive?

While some countries are running out of violent anti social types, we are breeding them like rabbits. And like the other inmates that are paying the price, so we citizens are paying the price. In insecurity, and fear.
Sounds like a slam on Newt Gingrich to me.

Have to jump in here. Rockingham County Jail in New Hampshire has had one family member, her EX husband, My boss's husband and a neighbor working there.

This is not a fun job but people stay with it for the State Retirement.    Of all these people 3 were guards one female.

The female was very interesting, she had Associates degrees in 3-4 different States, worked in prisons and County Jails all up and down the  Eastern Seaboard. She also had a PI license in the States she worked in.

She was in body frame just a bit smaller then some of the male guards, perhaps 5'8---140 pounds-----very attractive.
Her Job was just a job, she was to maintain order in the place and she had to do so with no expected backup just because she was a woman.

She and all guards could not carry on duty, only re strengths were some thumb cuffs.   She was very closed mouthed about the Guests she had to watch, but occasionally she would mention someone that had come to visit a few years ago, their attitude and problems they caused.

The female appearance at our jails for some reason seem to calm the prisoners, majority of injuries were to the male guards, any prisoner that harmed a female guard was not looked on too fondly by the others that needed a bit of a woman in their lives even if they were guards.

Last I heard she moved and went into social work in a big city.    Bad choice, she was stabbed, shoulder dislocated all in 6 months. She was much more safer working in the prison system then on the streets.

Woman have a big role to play in law enforcement, put the Social Service onto the Men, big bruisers that can carry on their job.

Damn you guys, are you so afraid of an old Lady's openions that you have to ban together to ignore the thoughts of a old woman that may not please you??   There has to be a reason for your actions, do I hit too close to the truth for you to handle, Are you such much Macho men to  listen to a old lady that that was around when your diapers needed changing?

I do disremember some things in history, but I lived it before your parents met up.  Don't quote Vesta, wonderful, why not, I may make mistakes but I was alive and kicking when you Men were soon to be born and was an eye wittiness to the stuff you just hear about.

Question is why do you fear me, yes me, do I get too close to the real history to cause you alarm,  why do you want to silence my posts, perhaps they are long and unusual, this is who I am.

You do not have to like me but I do expect RESPECT from the the other members of the CC.   When you disagree with me, no problem with a debate or exchange of ideas, Gentleman Please, remember to be be so.

Vesta.......When I was born FDR was president.....age isn't the issue........the content of your posts is what earns you these comments.  As I've attempted to politely advise you in the past, thinking through your post beforehand and keeping it short, on-topic, and concise will make a lot of these comments go away.

I realize that obviously your thinking doesn't work well with "short, on-topic, and concise", but it's a learned skill, if you practice, I know you can do it........

25. Instead of investing in more and more sociopathic lockups, how about investing in our village

And just how do you plan to do that, DUmmie? You can throw billions of dollars at a "village" but unless the children of that village are given a set of moral values & taught the importance of a code of conduct the money won't matter. And that's your problem, you have no values beyond wanting MORE.

Besides, sociopaths aren't made because of a lack of village infrastructure or too many kids in a classroom. Granted, something happens in their upbringing to bring out a personality disorder but unless they already have the mental capacity (i.e. they're born with it) for it to develop it's not going to happen, period.

Personality disorders can rarely be treated the way depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia can be. Neither medications nor seeing a psychiatrist can change a sociopath. That's why it's called a PERSONALITY disorder. Even so, like schools, workplaces and city streets there have to be rules everyone has to obey or else there will be chaos. This man isn't behind bars because he threw a tantrum and prison isn't supposed to be a vacation.

But if you think that's all it takes then perhaps we can take you and your fellow Dummies who share your philosophy put you in your own little village with a bunch of sociopaths, fenced of course. You can play nurturing earth mother to your hearts content...or until one of them kills you because he doesn't give a flying rats ass about your precious philosophy. In his mind you're a sucker and an easy mark.
