My friend has no heat
I live in upstate NY. It is going to be about minus 10 degrees tonight. My retired friend, living on Social Security, has sold on ebay for the past few year to make extra money, but with the economy, it sometimes cost more than she made, so she stopped. She grows almost all of her own food, cuts her own firewood, is very self-sufficient, but she got heating help from HEAP, a program that helps with heating costs. Her wood allotment was cut from 3 cords last year to one cord this year, and by the time she found out, it was cold and difficult to get into the woods for more wood. Mind you, she is 67 years old.

She has no money for kerosene, not enough wood to keep her house over 50 degrees. She needs kerosene for that. I gave her some wood we had cut, and hope that will hold her over for now. I'm so glad that people like Mitt Romney are keeping their tax cuts, while the poor got their heating help cut by 2/3. BTW, she has to stay there to keep her plants alive, so she can sell some in the spring, and make a few dollars.

God bless America.

Can't you guys come up with a new bouncy outline?

Bless your friend and to Hell (if there was one) with the likes of Romney.

So, you're gonna blame Romney when the tall tale took place in New York, a state controlled by the democrat party?

I say blame the tree huggers for not allowing more trees to be cut down.

5. How far upstate is she?

View profile
I'm in NJ and don't have a car. Otherwise, I'd bring her some firewood.

Here is the Craigslist results for free firewood in the Catskills area:

http://catskills.craigslist.org/search/zip?query=Free+fire+wood&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=

It wouldn't make a difference if she were only a mile away. You're still useless.

We just found her a cord of free wood. Thank you all so much. I am amazed at how much kindness there is here on this site. If this were on free republic, they would have told her to get off her 67 year old butt right now, and go cut more wood. Thank you.

Of coarse you did. If you had to give out a actual location, they would find out your story is made up and that you're a lying POS.

I will tell her that more money was allocated for HEAP this past week. I got her some wood, and my huaband just told me that our local outreach has some wood outside, so I will tell her about that, too. I offered for her, her dog and two cats to come to my house, but she does all organic gardening and is hoping to do a coop next summer and sell organic veggies, so she has a lot of plants from last year still in the house (she will do cuttings, etc.) so she doesn't want to leave, as she will lose all of her plants. We have so extra kerosene in our fuel tank, and I will see if we can get some out to get to her this weekend, also.

Thank you all for your offers of help. I didn't expect that. I really was just venting at how screwed up we are as a country when presidential candidates who are billionaires say the poor are just envious of the wealthy. Not that they are struggling to live or anything.

Peace.

Mission accomplished.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

If you live in upstate NY like I do you do not head into the winter unprepared unless your an ass. Of course relying on others for your needs qualifies you as an ass!
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Found some free money from the government but neither you or your "huaband" would get off your lazy asses to either go pick up some or go into the woods and cut any for her.
In other words charity for a liberal begins with taking money from someone else and not a damn thing more.

"...but she does all organic gardening ......sold on ebay for the past few year to make extra money."

Well, she should turn off the damn "grow lights" then. Those things eat up the electricity and the cops can find "grow operations" by checking electric bills. She may soon be staying in a warm place with 3 hots and a cot.

Just trying to be helpful here. :-)

Sounds like grandma has a lot of expensive hobbies that that money would be better spent on saving for kerosene. Just a thought.

Of course, if "Teh Wun" bothered to do any domestic drilling, heating oil wouldn't be $3.60/gallon and kerosene wouldn't be upwards of $4/gallon.

Oh but madam, surely you're familiar with grouchy old Don, the NNNLHOI primitive, and the burdened primitive, the now-gone-away Tyler Durden?

They've both been on record many times as blaming Ronald Reagan for things that happened when Jimmy Carter was president, and Reagan a private citizen.

You fool, actually we wouldn't of posted about it on a message board we would be out there doing something about it or digging into our own pockets to help. A friend of mine did a fundraiser around Christmas, nothing spectacular, just basically did a matching donation thing for a food bank, he's not rich, but he managed to collect tons of food and raised over $2,000 to purchase gift cards to grocery stores to give to those who need them because of the Obamaeconomy.

ETA: He's a staunch Republican!

Damn! What a list. If they would all just send her a wooden #2 lead pencil, she could heat her house for a year. ...or...just fire one of them and give her the salary and she could move to Florida where she would probably be of as much service to the state of NY as anyone on that list.

Well Obama did say we can't keep our thermostats at 70 anymore, so maybe she should just grab a sweater a la Carter the 1st.

How come none of them are comparing the times now to when Bush was in office? and how come none of them are blaming Obama?

More of his "Do as I say" shit. Wasn't it reported a couple of years ago that he "likes it hot" and keeps the Whitehouse themostat on 84 degrees. You can do that when someone else is paying the bill.

I wonder if the DUmbasses know there was no HEAP program until it was signed into law by President Reagan.

It's amazing that so many deadbeat democrats survived all those pre-global-warming winters.

It's all about the free with them.

The thread at DU has bugged me, and it really points out a fundamental difference between me (us?) and them.

There was a need.  People offered help and solutions.  The offers were rejected when Big Gov came through.  To them that was a hallelujah moment.  To me it was unnecessary once they had wood for her.

And, really, what was she doing not being prepared?  67 is not too old for many people to prepare for winter by cutting wood.

Gads they are flipping helpless.

The DUmmies are just practicing "It's Romney's fault..." in case he wins the primary and then eventually the election.  It's kind of cute.  No blame for Obama, who has come right out and said that electricity rates would 'necessarily skyrocket'.  Trust me, Obama kept his little promise with that statement.

29. Someone should make this situation known to Obama, Local TV stations,

and national TV stations. Send it to Fox...bet $5000 (lol) they won't mention it...if they did they'd say, "Take a shower and get to work chopping... the exercise is good for you and will warm you up."

Then they would probably say under there breath...Maybe she'll have a heart attack and then we'd have one less person on welfare.
All kidding aside...that the true essence of Rethug thinking.

I hate to break this to you Auntie Bush ( ha ha, funny name, NOT ) but Obama doesn't give a damn about you or any other DUmmy. He wants your pennies period.

Some lefty news station may care. I know here they love broke down DUmmy stories that portray you idiots as victims.  Only thing is the comment section usually exposes what a DUmmy the person looking for sympathy really is.  It's funny.  That's right, it's HILARIOUS !

One correction there hon, we don't wish people dead. We have class, something you people know nothing about. We help those that need help, not those that demand it.

Smoke on that for a while.

At one time, it use to be call Keef. Then it became call Madcow. Now it's call obama. In DUmbdom hierarchy, that's  as high as they can go. They've reached the end of the grid.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

All he has to do now is get on tee-vee and tell us that.  Oh, and something about "malaise".  I hear that did wonders for Carter's reelection chances.

OTOH, I'm curious as to what temperature the White House is heated to in winter, and cooled to in summer.  August in DC can be, to put it mildly, a cast-iron bitch.

Seriously? do you think the media would do anything that would reflect badly on Obama? they're his cheerleaders, heck when they graduate with their Journalism Degrees they get kneepads along with their Diploma's.

Personally I would like to see the return of the misery index.  Funny you never hear of that from media these days.
