Norcross parents upset by slavery in school math worksheet
By David Ibata
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A math worksheet for third graders that used examples of slavery in word problems has angered some parents at a Norcross elementary school, Channel 2 Action News reports.

One word problem stated, "Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?" Another said, "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in 1 week?”

Such questions can evoke bitter memories in Georgia, where African Americans were enslaved for generations until the Civil War and the elimination of slavery.

"It kind of blew me away,” Christopher Braxton, a parent of a child at Beaver Ridge Elementary School, told Channel 2. "I was furious. … Something like this shouldn't be embedded into a kid of the third, fourth, fifth, any grade."

Sounds something like Mrs Dawson could have came up with.

Doesn't anyone review that stuff before it's given to kids?

Yes. Another liberal teacher who found nothing wrong with it.

Where 30 years ago, they could have joined rapid transit and marta, but they were afraid minorities might taint their lily white county.

The minorities moved there anyway, and now they have the worst traffic in the state.

The teacher and school using these math "examples" are racist pigs, pure and simple.

What conclusion can be drawn from this? That minorities are the worst drivers in the state.

Gwinnett County School District officials said teachers were attempting to incorporate history into math lessons.

“Teachers were trying to do a cross-curricular activity,” district spokeswoman Sloan Roach told Channel 2.

Roach acknowledged the questions gave no context for the issues they raised.

I agree that it is jarring and inept, but this wasn't caused by racism. You can see how this happened - the math teachers were told "this is what we're on now," and the math teachers just reworded some old exercise problems to include some of the current terminology listed.

But placing the problems in the present context is entirely confusing, and I doubt this approach works very well at all in math at that age. At that age, you are mostly working on acquiring and drilling basic skills, and you want anything confusing left out. If you try to provide much of the context, now you are making it into more of reading lesson.

Still, even if they had had the wits to put the questions in the past tense....

Sounds like the history teacher has grounds for a grievance. The math teacher crossed a line of demarcation in attempting to teach history.

It's so obvious that it's the product of diseased Liberal minds trying to drum indoctrination about oppression into the kids, in a wildly-inappropriate form on top of that.  Stupid doctrinaire Libs naturally jump to the conclusion that it's all the Conservatives' fault when someone blows the whistle on it.

Liar.

I lived in Atlanta for a while.  The MARTA trains were never scheduled to be initially built past Chamblee and only in the last 15 years or so were built to Doraville.  The buses were always a part of MARTA in Gwinett.  How do you think the maids got to work?

I know one who recently retired.  She was certain that only black people ever picked cotton and taught her all black classroom that 'fact'.  Turns out this teacher's own grandmother picked cotton in order to present her granddaughter (this teacher) with savings bonds when she was born.

I had a pretty even mix of white/black teachers during my public school tenure.  I wasn't impressed with any of them, but I will say the best teacher I had was a Dominican immigrant for physics and calculus in college.

I had a form of dyslexia called mirror imaging growing up (I somehow grew out of it).  I couldn't read and was held back in third grade. The best teacher I ever had wasn't a teacher at all but was a teachers aide who worked with me everyday on my reading. She never raised her voice and was a very positive person. Out of all of my teachers I remember her the most. Oh, she just so happened to be black.

Slavery is so 150 years ago. Let's have some current word problems.

If there are 56 Section 8 waivers available and 103 inner city welfare mothers that need them how many more need to be available to make a white liberal feel better about  their party putting down the black race for over 250 years?

If you get an extra $200/month on your EBT card for each child, how many children do you need to still feed them and get a carton of Newports and a case of 40s every week?

If you are a democrat and keep promising a better future for your black constituents but things keep getting worse, how many more times do you keep voting democrat?

If your corner crack dealer has 20 bags of rock and sells each bag for $10, how much money will he have to give to his gang leader?

If someone argues against the policies of the first (1/2) black president, how many nanoseconds elapse before they are called a racist by a democrat operative in the media?

When my moonbat brother was here for Christmas we had a little political disagreement.  I didn't bring up the race of anyone who is on welfare but all he could talk about was slavery in relation to welfare.  I told him he was racist if the only people he he thought are on welfare are black. I know it was a cheap shot but its how they argue so turn about is fair play.

I refuse to be called a racist when quoting facts or truth. I will now call anyone that disagrees with that a racist. I don't believe in saying "Someone said the n-word" I say the word. BTW the only African Americans are first generation citizens tha played by the rules and are now citizens. Black people in America are black people.

The liberal guilt that I felt through indoctrination of the Liberal media, schools, and government policies means nothing anymore after the last 5 years. That is one change that electing the first half black president did for me. At least for now the 'Truth" is still a complete defense.

How about as a percentage of population?

Total by Race
--------------
White 38.8%
Black 37.2
Hispanic 17.8
Asian 2.8
Other 3.4

Whites are 65% of the population. Blacks are 12.5.

If you were to extrapolate these numbers, figuring that both black and white had equal numbers in population, black families would have 5 times the amount of white families on welfare.

That was pointed out a few years ago and the democrats came out screaming, "They're more whites on wefare than blacks and you're racist for _________(fill in the blank)."

ETA: At that time there were something like 5,200,000 whites on welfare and 5,199,000 blacks on welfare....it really was about that close at the time.

That adds up to a little over 10,000,000 then...how many total on welfare now?

Some time ago, I heard an African-American author talk on NPR about what inspired him to write his book: During the 1800s, some slave owners in the U.S. were black. Afterward a historian said she’d never heard of any such phenomenon and dismissed the idea as ridiculous. Who’s right?

Regardless of what the primitives would want to believe blacks did own other blacks. Sometimes to reunite families but other times for a workforce. A look into the life of William (April) Ellison is pretty enlightening regarding slave owning blacks in the south. He not only was one of the larger slave owners in South Carolina but was a supporter of the Confederacy who turned his farm from profitable cotton to growing food for the army.

ANSWER: There is only outrage when they think it's useful in marginalizing voices they disagree with and they hope silently within themselves--or accuse outright vocally--that the offenders are related to conservative.

When they find out the offenders are not who they assumed they were the libs demure because, well, you can't hold black people to the same standard...after all, blacks are just "that way" donchaknow. It's not like you can expect better of them; that would be racist.
