Yet ANOTHER 'Big Lie'
All through the Senate debate, you'll be hearing the Repubs claiming the Dems proposed election legislation would "federalize" the elections.
THEY ARE LYING.
Elections are already under the auspices of the Congress, per the U.S. Constitution:
--- Quote ---Article 1, Section 4
The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations.

2. Hard to argue what is in the US Constitution.
Democrats in the Senate had better point that out.
When the US Supreme Court struck down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act regarding pre-clearance, they deferred it to Congress to strengthen it. The House did that, but Republicanshe in the Senate refuse.

9. The "Federalism!" charge is ominously like the "States rights!" claim that led to the Civil War.
From PBS website:
A key issue [leading to the Civil War] was states' rights. The Southern states wanted to assert their authority over the federal government so they could abolish federal laws they didn't support, especially laws interfering with the South's right to keep slaves and take them wherever they wished.

:whatever:
SVPete:
DUmmies love them some word games. They could call Dems' unconstitutional regulations Ham-Sandwichizing elections, but the regs would still be unconstitutional.
BTW, the part of Article 1, Section 4 that Star Moron WHITT quoted applies narrowly, specifically to Senators and Representative - i.e. not the President, and not to state and local offices and ballot measures. Gotcha fail! :rotf:

I would like to see one congressional alteration to the regulations that disqualifies any state from participating in a federal election if they allow non-citizens to vote in their local elections.
It's just too messy to filter out ballots to the non-citizens that supposedly only contain local election matters with the ballots that go to Citizens who can vote on all local and state matters.
Just look at how cocked up the motor voter law is in california where thousands of non citizens "accidently" are registered to vote thru a computer "glitch"
