Yes, unless I am mistaken, you are right about that. Doctors don't have to be fluent in Latin, and lawyers don't have to be fluent in Latin. I heard that recently the Roman Catholic Church stopped requiring that priests give sermons in Latin to a lay audience that doesn't understand Latin. Perhaps in the future few people who train to become professional Catholic priests will acquire fluency in Latin.
As for other professions, I suppose that academics who specialize in the study of ancient Roman civilization do need to be fluent in Latin.
