What the mother should do, is encourage her children to drink water, instead of milk.Show a little restraint woman...

I have it loaded for shooting, yes, but I don't like it.  The first time I shot it, it fell out of my hands from the recoil.  I will use it though to kill.  I prefer my .357 S&W revolver for just everyday thug shooting.  :lmao:

Another idea, is to make food budget class mandatory once a month while on EBT cards. No show, no EBT cards.

I guess that (back on topic) the problem that I have with the story that is highlighted in the OP is the math.....

Stated:  Kids consume a loaf of bread a day, and four gallons of milk weekly......

OK, around here I can buy generic (store brand) bread for $1.00 a loaf = $7 per week  Milk runs about $3.50 per gallon, times four = $14  So for the bread and milk, she spends $21 per week.......what is she spending the other $179 on to make it up to her stated $200 weekly cost??  My wife and I can shop at Walmart and come home with enough food for a MONTH for less than $179.....

Doesn't wash......

You are right Doc, it doesn't wash. Pasta goes along way, as does rice. There are so many books and other literature than can help one learn how to budget the food. She should make her kids drink water before each meal, then they wouldn't need such big portions.

Why doesn't she go to a supercenter and gets everything she needs( there's one 5 miles away?) Coupons and the sales flyers are so helpful, and she could build meals around those???

Well, you can't expect the precious little parasitic piece of shit to go out of her way, can you?

I've got a better idea.  You want food stamps?  Fine--the only place the EBT card will EVER work is at the local EBT store, where you can get foodstuffs at discounted rates.

Only one catch--no junk food, no sodas, no lobsters, no tenderloin.  BASIC meat (chicken, pork, hamburger, etc.) dairy, bread, and vegetables.  You know, healthy shit.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with this! There should be food banks set up where food is donated and, if need be, provided by the government at the lowest cost possible. "Edible", not gourmet. The food should be base label. If they want nicer things and better food, get a ****ing job. Provide them with just the basics. I'd give the f'ers a box of MRE's and tell them, "see ya in 12 days". I'm sick to death of these parasites.  :censored:

I really can't understand all of this whining about food costs from these mooches on food stamps.......I really can't.....

I have to say that I'm really proud of my wife......she can stretch a food budget to the point of absurdity.

Granted, food costs have increased substantially over the past four decades, however, back in the '70s when I was on leave of absence from my regular job to complete my postdoc.......which paid peanuts......we had three children in the house, and for a family of five, she prepared meals.....GOOD meals.......for a total of $100 per month (or less).  No food stamps or aid of any kind, she just prepared food wisely.  We didn't live on rice and beans, we even had steaks occasionally, and fresh seafood.  She turned leftovers into great soups and stews, made casseroles, baked desserts, etc.  When this feat is considered, you must also understand that she HATES to cook......with a passion, but she did what she needed to do, and even though we no longer have any real financial constraints, she still spends less on food than anyone else that we know.

Our children were going to a "brown bag" school, absolutely NO school lunch program, so she prepared and packed lunches every school day for all three of them out of that hundred dollars....

I simply don't understand what the fuss is about.......unless it's just a scam.....

Do you think you, a teenaged son, and a 70 yr old elderly dad could live off of $400 a month for food?

Do you think you, a 2 yr old kid could live off of $250 a month for food?

If you were "starving" would you let the following happen?  would you buy a bag of chips or would you try to buy a bag of rice?

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2012/apr/29/hunger-risk-real-for-many-area-kids/?partner=popular

I am kind of confused and want to be set straight if I am not thinking correctly.  Sure kids have to have a healthy meal but if you were that poor wouldn't you think you could get by with buying frozen veggies, ramen noodles, crap meat?  I could make $400 go big time for my family of 5 with rice, beans, milk, flour, eggs, etc...you know, basics.

I am hoping someone is going to tell me I am wrong because I am not getting these "woe is me" people and their mentality.  :o

How to feed a family of four two meals for less than $20.

1. 4 pound roasting chicken: $8-10
2. 1 bag whole carrots: $3
3. 1 head celery: $3
4. 1 bag onions: $3

Day 1: Roast chicken with 1/2 of the vegetables
Day 2: Boil carcass with the rest of the vegetables, diced = Chicken Soup (add dumplings if you have flour, eggs, and soda or Bisquik)

It's bullshit, Gina.

No way in hell does a family HAVE to go through 4 gallons of milk a week, or a loaf of bread a day -- store bought bread, that is, and fresh milk.

You'd be surprised.

While in Alaska we had a family come in for an obesity consult on their not-as-yet-school-aged child. Sure as shit, the child was obese.

He was drinking a gallon of 2% milk a day and 5 large glasses of juice on top of it.

The medical provider gave her best judgment and opinion on the matter.

The family left somewhat peeved.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

BD--I can get TWO chickens at BJ's (or the local "cheapo" chain) for less than that.  Roast them or make "beer can chicken" out of even just one, you've got enough to feed five people, and still have enough for chicken sandwiches for lunch the next day.  Make a side salad to go with it, or as you said, boil the carcass and make soup (noodles are cheap too.)

Yeah, a whole chicken is about 4.79 at Walmart. Add .50 cents of rice and some seasoning, and you can feed a family of 4 a couple of meals or, as was previously stated, make chicken and dumplings. These parasites aren't worried about feeding their kids. They're wanting as little effort on their part as possible.

I'm thawing out a roaster I picked up at the commissary. 6.25 lb @ .89/lb, $5.56 for 2 dinners and a week's worth of soup!

I thought chickens at the civilian stores were more expensive.

Edited to add last sentence.
