I've always liked Jimmy Buffet, in fact...I was in that crowd in KW that's pictured with the article! His music is "fun" music...not rocket science.
I am disappointed that he would make the comments that he has, and while I understand his anger with the oil expected to hit the lower Florida coast and Keys (which have incredibly fragile coral reefs)....it is obviously very misdirected. And though it's obvious that he doesn't know what he's talking about, it hasn't stopped him from voicing his opinion.
I really hope that people will start waking up to the oil situation, and realize that this is an incredibly tragic ACCIDENT....that no one really knows how to fix.
BP had already stepped up to the plate, prior to Obama's coercing $20billion out of them and said they would pay for everything.
Obama wanted to make himself look good by "getting them to pay" the $20B...but the reality of the situation is that it is HIS administration that has dropped the ball in implementing protective measures and cleanups that he could have helped facilitate. He could have rescinded the Jones Act to allow other countries to help us....and he didn't.
Obama could have done many things and didn't.....because it is ever so much easier to blame Bush.
And it's so convenient to listen to Obama's "sound bites" and believe them to be true, rather than take the time to actually learn the truth, for oneself.
I would venture a guess, that 80-90% of Jimmy's fanbase is over 40 and ... if the polls are correct....at least 50% of them are conservative. He's just pissed off at least 40-45% of his fan-base.
Not a good thing to do when a ticket to one of his concerts is about $50, if not more. In these economic times, when people are having to be much more budgetary conscious in there own households...he's done something really stupid....
