This changes everything if true. You simply cannot follow someone out of your house and shoot them in the street and then claim self-defense. This father is truly ****ed, and imho, rightfully so.
Now that this story has unfolded a bit, I have to recant my original statement - that the dumbass kid was so monumentally stupid that he should've been shot.
In retrospect, it's not a crime to be stupid. The kid should've gotten his ass beaten, but he shouldn't have been shot when he was doing everything he could do to leave the house.
I can understand the stepfather's rage - I won't go into details, but I can understand that.
But in my situation, while I was armed, I elected not to use the firearm. That worked best all around, I think.
And since the stepfather has a history of violence of any sort, well, there's a history there.
I think "murder" is a pretty strong charge, however. Assault with a deadly weapon might be more appropriate, but I'm no lawyer. Maybe they'll plea it down to ADW.
