Excellent point.

Beyond that, the father followed the boy into the street and shot him.  I really don't care at all about your opinion of teenage sex; that shit is just plain wrong by any measure.

BTW...I have a daughter...and if I caught her and her teenage boyfriend having sex in my home...she would be grounded for a year and he would no longer be welcome in my house.

They are both teenagers...making bad choices.  Now if anyone ever tried to molest my child...then yeah, he'd get shot, right between the eyes.

At what age would you draw the line?  If he was 20, 22, 26 and she was 16?

He is a legal adult.  Should he have been shot?  Not really, I was stirring the pot a little early.

According to the state of FL, that line is 24.

And to whomever was asking (lugnut IIRC) if the father should have gotten ID before pulling the trigger, hell yes.  Not literally had the kid pull out a driver's license, but telling him "get off my daughter or I shoot" would have done a pretty good job of breaking them apart until his intentions could be ascertained.  What this man did is vigilantism, especially if he followed the kid out the door and shot him multiple times while he was in the street.  He deserves to be locked up.

I have a daughter and a son. I walked in on my son and his girlfried when they were seniors in HS...he was 18, she was 17....5 minutes later and I would have been horrified...as it was I was just really pissed!!!! They weren't even in his room but on the family room couch!!! ewwwww!

He apologized...she didn't. He was living with his father at the time. I took away his key...and she was never welcome in my house again.

Before my daughter moved in with her fiance....he did stay here some. She was 26 at the time. We have an apartment over the garage and that's where she was living.

Me...heck ...I was never dumb enough to have sex in my dad's house! (I wasn't doing the wild thing in high school either) I didn't have a death wish....because he would have killed me, and probably let the guy go.  ::)

My little brother is 15 years younger than me....he dated an 18yo girl when he was 15...my dad thought that was great.

Now that this story has unfolded a bit, I have to recant my original statement - that the dumbass kid was so monumentally stupid that he should've been shot.

In retrospect, it's not a crime to be stupid. The kid should've gotten his ass beaten, but he shouldn't have been shot when he was doing everything he could do to leave the house.

I can understand the stepfather's rage - I won't go into details, but I can understand that.

But in my situation, while I was armed, I elected not to use the firearm. That worked best all around, I think.

And since the stepfather has a history of violence of any sort, well, there's a history there.

I think "murder" is a pretty strong charge, however. Assault with a deadly weapon might be more appropriate, but I'm no lawyer. Maybe they'll plea it down to ADW.

Given a lack of details about what exactly happened when the man found them, we can't really say if what he did at that point was right or not.  There are many situations where shooting first and asking questions later is appropriate.  Shooting the kid as he tried to escape is not one of them.
