the Republicans had never gotten over their utter humiliation with the threatened impeachment and forcing out of office of Richard Nixon.

Ever since then they'd been trying to turn a Democrat into a Nixon-equivalent, and Bill-who-lied-about-a-blow-job was the closest they'd come.

Imagine how they'll feel after DT is forced out of office.

Yep. 

As far as Nixon, The GOP had long since abandoned rushing to his defense every day.  Many Repubs on the Watergate Committee were exceptionally rough on him.  Nixon had rarely consulted with any of them about anything.  There were no personal relationships.

Nice try, Clinton apologist, but it was because the truth was and will always be a stranger to him, and he behaved exactly like the high-functioning sociopath that he is but couldn't lie his way out of it, for the first time in his life.

It's easy to prove Republicans "got over" Nixon (based upon that premise being true, which it isn't since Republicans never felt like they needed to have any pay-back because of Watergate) with just one name: Reagan.

Yes,  it is true.  Tricky Dick was not impeached. Score one for the Rock.  In fact, he ended the Viet Nam war, opened China, and created the liberal's beloved EPA, OSHA, and Endangered Species Act.  He was more liberal than Kennedy in many ways.   Now why didn't the Republicans support him during the Watergate investigations?  :popcorn:

Bill Clinton got impeached for lying under oath about his affair with an intern,, but let's not forget that wasn't what the investigation was all about.  Al Capone went to jail for tax evasion, but that doesn't mean he didn't murder or direct the murder of dozens of people.  Same is true for the Clintons.  All other evidence was destroyed and shredded except a certain blue dress.

Yup...it's true.    And were it not for Drudge and Freerepublic he would have skated from even that.  They took the easy way out with the blue dress.  Sad but true.  How many Republicans are still in the Senate who voted to acquit?  (Susan Collins for one?)

Sort of, actually he made a deal with Arkansas the day before he left office in order to avoid facing further charges.
