Seth Rogen: Some Comics Decrying PC Mob Forget They ‘Have to Be Funny’

It seems like almost every week there’s a comedian who says something politically incorrect and then either apologizes for it, defends it, or leaves it as is while the internet rumbles with righteous anger. And of all the comedians who get flak for the politically incorrect stuff they say, arguably the biggest target is the man who hosted a show literally called Politically Incorrect: Bill Maher.

And on Maher’s show last night, Seth Rogen opined on the subject of political correctness weaving its way into the comedy scene and not really finding much at issue there as Maher does.

They were going off a viewer question about why comedy doesn’t talk about politics or social issues in the same way it used to. Rogen completely rejected the premise of the question, though Roland Martin pointed out there are plenty of comics who don’t dare tread in political waters because of potential backlash.

Rogen said he’s never been the brunt of any politically correct mobs, and he made a movie making fun of the rapture. Rogen then took the opportunity to take issue with something comedians do after comments that don’t go over well:

“I think some people who get labeled as comics who are like, ‘Ooh, the political correct community is condemning me,’ forget that they also have to be funny. And I think that when your shit is funny, people are much more willing to accept an idea that they themselves might find horribly offensive.:

2. Funny how the people complaining about political correctness

are always straight white men. huh.

Because everyone else is protected by PCism.

They struggle mightily to deny what everyone else knows exists:

4. I hate the "politically incorrect" meme

Firstly, political correctness has never been the tyranny these people make it out to be.
Secondly many people have made fortunes being "politically incorrect", no-one has ever made money being politically correct.
Thirdly, "I'm politically incorrect" has now become a phrase that just means "I should be free to be a prick and no-one should call me on it".

9. This really is an instance where women, gays (I always assumed lesbians are gays), and Asians

have to step up and become comedians, I would think? And I have watched some hilarious comedy by gay emn and women and Asians and women, so it is out there.

Affirmative Action: What can't it **** up?

And then along comes this idiot that proves what the others claim does not exist:

8. Precisely, Seth! " and he made a movie making fun of the rapture." Rec for that alone..

Get that?

If you make fun of the right group of people you can say whatever you want and even be applauded for it.

What would gain more approval among the Proglodyte horde? A satire of Christianity or a satire of Islam?

I'm still waiting for Seth Rogan's Weekend in Mecca.

The story: Three American 30-somethings, a reformed Jewish gay couple and an atheist who is also a chronic masturbator (played by Rogan, of course), get lost on the way to Thailand, and end up in Mecca during the Hajj.

Hijinks ensue.

I'm sure some did - But you know what they will find really funny ? When the next Republican president (And you DUmmies know there will be one eventually) cites Obama's policy of law negation as precedent when he/she signs an executive order negating enforcement of any sort of environmental laws that are deemed to be too onerous.

That'll be a real knee-slapper, right there..
