What is 'misandry'?
 
Generally, "misandry" refers to the hatred and oppression of men on a genotypic basis.

However, dictionary definitions often fall short, so let's examine what these men have to say:

As sociologist Allan Johnson notes, "misandry" has no place in a male-identified, male-centered world. Moreover, Johnson states: “And it takes almost no criticism at all in order for men to feel "bashed," like it's "open season on men." In fact, just saying "male privilege" or "patriarchy" can start eyes rolling and evoke that exasperated sense of "Here we go again.” (Allan Johnson, “Privilege, power and difference,” p. 197)

"Accusations of male bashing and man hating work to discredit feminism because people often confuse men as individuals with men as a dominant and privileged category of people. The slightest deviation from male and white centeredness is perceived as a profound loss of privilege. This is why with each tiny step that women and minorities take toward equality, the outcry of white and male supremacists about how "oppressed" white men are has been getting louder.

The conservative backlash is in overdrive to protect their illegitimate, unethical, hierarchal system of privilege. Many White heterosexual men feel "oppressed" and rave about the mythic "misandry."

Nobody quoted here was ever in a position of power to actually harm anyone with these views, and they existed as tiny voices in a patriarchal society that dominated and destroyed women every day and still does.

Any man claim in this is any sort of real problem while we still have our male dominated patriarchal society at all levels is just trying to divert from the real problems.

The Steinem quote speaks truth and deals with patriarchy and how it relates to domestic arrangements. It isn't "anti-men."

Violence against women occurs more often in homes with single mothers.  It would be interesting to see that broken down into divorced and never married single mothers.

Just guessing here, but judging from what I see most often in the local paper, I'll wager that most of those single mom victims are minorities.

This thread is one of my current favorites from DU as of now. It does stretch the point for me though. In that, ever since only a couple months ago, I've been hearing all this BS about #WhitePrivelige, #MalePrivelige, #HeteroPrivilege, etc. WTF?! What privilege??? I'm a disabled, hard working, Blue collar American. I don't get to talk about liberals the way they talk about me without being made to feel lower than whale shit in the bottom of the ocean. Or without being even physically attacked. I don't get to go on tirades about how everyone owes me a living, an EBT card, a house, a car, the world just because I ain't happy with my life. I don't get to disappear from the news circuit as a minority would if I shoot, and kill someone. I also wouldn't expect to. 1. Yeah, I don't think it says anything about "household composition".

Statistically, the vast, vast majority of violent crime is black-on-black.

The vast majority of black women over 15 years of age are unmarried and have illegitimate children.

Married adult women, with or without children, are overwhelmingly white.

The graph just reaffirms the fact that most crime is black-on-black.
