RedGash wants a discussion on misandry

What is 'misandry'?

Generally, "misandry" refers to the hatred and oppression of men on a genotypic basis.

However, dictionary definitions often fall short, so let's examine what these men have to say:

As sociologist Allan Johnson notes, "misandry" has no place in a male-identified, male-centered world. Moreover, Johnson states: “And it takes almost no criticism at all in order for men to feel "bashed," like it's "open season on men." In fact, just saying "male privilege" or "patriarchy" can start eyes rolling and evoke that exasperated sense of "Here we go again.” (Allan Johnson, “Privilege, power and difference,” p. 197)

"Accusations of male bashing and man hating work to discredit feminism because people often confuse men as individuals with men as a dominant and privileged category of people. Given the reality of women's oppression, male privilege, and some men's enforcement of both, it's hardly surprising that EVERY woman should have moments when she resents or even "hates" men.” (Allan Johnson, "The gender knot," p. 107)

“Both movements (white supremacists and male supremacists) attack women and people of color for playing the victim card because they see white men as the real victims. (Michael Kimmel, "Privilege: A reader," p. 325)

The slightest deviation from male and white centeredness is perceived as a profound loss of privilege. This is why with each tiny step that women and minorities take toward equality, the outcry of white and male supremacists about how "oppressed" white men are has been getting louder.

The conservative backlash is in overdrive to protect their illegitimate, unethical, hierarchal system of privilege. Many White heterosexual men feel "oppressed" and rave about the mythic "misandry."

What 'misandry' is

"Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation, and destroy the male sex."

~Valerie Solanas, the SCUM Manifesto

"Patriarchy requires violence or the subliminal threat of violence in order to maintain itself… The most dangerous situation for a woman is not an unknown man in the street, or even the enemy in wartime, but a husband or lover in the isolation of their home."

~Gloria Steinem in Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem, pp. 259-261.

"Romance is rape embellished with meaningful looks."

Anyway - these aren't the droids you're looking for. Now go about your business. Clearly, misandry does not exist, and to imply that it does is the stuff of conspiracy theories and fairy tales.

But since men hurt women more frequently and severely this doesn't matter.

Nobody quoted here was ever in a position of power to actually harm anyone with these views, and they existed as tiny voices in a patriarchal society that dominated and destroyed women every day and still does.

Any man claim in this is any sort of real problem while we still have our male dominated patriarchal society at all levels is just trying to divert from the real problems.

It's as asinine as the racists who whine about the Black Panther Party oppressing white people.

The Steinem quote speaks truth and deals with patriarchy and how it relates to domestic arrangements. It isn't "anti-men."

Apparently marriage is a patriarchal construct for trapping women in an institution of violent subjugation.

Or not...

Violence against women occurs more often in homes with single mothers.  It would be interesting to see that broken down into divorced and never married single mothers.

Just guessing here, but judging from what I see most often in the local paper, I'll wager that most of those single mom victims are minorities.

This thread is one of my current favorites from DU as of now. It does stretch the point for me though. In that, ever since only a couple months ago, I've been hearing all this BS about #WhitePrivelige, #MalePrivelige, #HeteroPrivilege, etc. WTF?! What privilege??? I'm a disabled, hard working, Blue collar American. I don't get to talk about liberals the way they talk about me without being made to feel lower than whale shit in the bottom of the ocean. Or without being even physically attacked. I don't get to go on tirades about how everyone owes me a living, an EBT card, a house, a car, the world just because I ain't happy with my life. I don't get to disappear from the news circuit as a minority would if I shoot, and kill someone. I also wouldn't expect to. 1. Because we all know the news is chock full of liberal idiots who hide anything that makes their side look bad. 2. Because I'm a responsible, heterosexual, conservative, God fearing, hard working individual.

Everything I just described above is nothing but disgusting #ProgressivePrivilege, and it sickens me!! This meme of "privilege" is vile, untrue, and infuriates me. Any one of you DUchebags want to come over and argue "privilege?" Do it if you have the balls/ovaries.  Wanna banter over who has more struggles, and who has overcome more? Come on over, cause I guarantee I have your ass BEAT! Not gonna sit, and cry about it either. I will continue to overcome as all of you wallow in self pity, and degradation

Yeah, I don't think it says anything about "household composition".

Statistically, the vast, vast majority of violent crime is black-on-black.

The vast majority of black women over 15 years of age are unmarried and have illegitimate children.

Married adult women, with or without children, are overwhelmingly white.

The graph just reaffirms the fact that most crime is black-on-black.
