PCIntern deigns to allow the servant boy to attend to her

To demonstrate how things have changed...

I just took myself to lunch at a restaurant here in Center City Philadelphia. I as an individual have been a customer there since 1975 and my family attended the present owner's GRANDfather's seafood house from the 1930's through the late 1960's until it was sold/demolished to make room for the skyline which now proudly and esthetically dominates here.

It is a well-known seafood establishment which used to cater to the older, conventional folk who inhabited the residences on Rittenhouse Square and Kennedy Boulevard, but those people are nearly all "gone" and so it has become trendy, now owned by the grandson of the founder, having taken the helm from his father's capable hands.

Since it is lunch hour, I chose to sit at the Oyster Bar because there's no point taking up a deuce when they're in such demand. That's the kind of guy I am. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make...

The male server, as they're now called, comes up to me and stands, oh, maybe eight inches from my eyes and asks me the routine questions - meanwhile I'm leaning backwards since he's not my son or anything else for that matter. He seems disappointed in my order of Manhattan Clam Chowder ($7) and a dozen Cherrystone Clams ($16) and Coffee ($2.5) and asks me if I am going to be having anything else. I debated whether I should say to him, "If I wanted anything else, then I would have asked for it, would I not have?" but did not out of courtesy and the fact that he has a shot at my food. Anyway, the food comes, is delicious as usual, and the instant I put down my fork, he attends me and asks if "that will be all". I replied that normally I would ask for a second cup of coffee, but today, no thank you. That is a hint that he should have asked me but he was absolutely oblivious. the check appeared out of nowhere and here is the best part...

I placed two Twenties on a $27.50 check and he asks me if he should bring me the change. Very softly I asked him if he considered that twelve dollars and fifty cents tip on a twenty-seven dollar check might be a bit high...? Without a word, he took the check and brought me my change. I left him a five dollar tip, normally I would have left seven here since I have known some of the middle-aged (like me) waitresses, pardon me, servers, since they were in high school working there.

Had I seen the father of the owner, who eats lunch there occasionally, I would have said something to him in a "fun" manner, with some humor attached. I knew that if I spoke to his son, he would have an "answer" for me, as he has for everyone else who works or eats there, and I would get mad.

As a P.S., please allow me to say that I do this maybe twice a year. Good Friday I give my staff off (with pay) and come in, take emergencies before the Easter Holiday, and do paperwork. I buy myself a treat for being so magnanimous to everyone else.

Little full of himself, isn't he?

Minus the embellishments (as compared to what actually happened), sounds like a normal restaurant visit. The "That's the kind of guy I am," "but did not out of courtesy," "That is a hint that he should have asked me," "normally I would have left seven," and "I buy myself a treat for being so magnanimous to everyone else" comments says this fool has a high opinion of himself. Given how stupid he is, I don't know why he would. But he's in with a whole political ideology that has the same viewpoint of themselves, and all without a single reason to do so, therefore it's not surprising.

Every place I've ever eaten the person who took the order has always asked if there will be anything else after taking the initial order.  It is not uncommon for me or my wife to add on another item, and it's handy for the server to ask.

As to the second cup of coffee, when the server asked if "that will be all" provided a wonderful opportunity to request it, without being an ass.

Edited to show that this DUmmy is an ass to other DUmmies as well

2. I worked in food service from the age of 12 to 26

I know how to take an order and how to relate to a customer. This is not "good service" this is ATROCIOUS service. Your standards are obviously quite low.
My emphasis, but this display of assery to another DUmmy is similar to the gNads' displays when anyone disagrees with her.

You know, this ass should move to England....or at least the England of 35 years ago. The X-wife's cousins would come over to visit and we would take them out to eat or on a site seeing trip to mountains/beach/somewhere. I was always striking up a conversation with total strangers and the hired help in restaurants and fast food places. Seems that was a no-no back in England. You weren't supposed to talk to strangers and the service help, they were beneath you. But as odd and strange as my behavior was to them, I was the first one they all wanted to see and spend time with when they came over here.

That's ridiculous.
That was my X-wife's folks attitude as they had a high opinion of themselves. They weren't royalty but some notch right below there or something.
.....and they told me that back in England they wouldn't have spoken to these people as I did.

I believe if my country bumpkin ass were even to visit England that me and the folks there would get along just fine. :-)

I reread the OP. The server did nothing to offend. In fact he did exactly what he was supposed to do.
Asking, "Will there will be anything else?" is normal. That is not an insult.

But this just falls in line with the rest of the socialist elite. The little people are held in contempt.
Hillary never leaves a tip, she expects a staffer to do it for her. Obama changes Congressional law on a whim, expecting congress to never challenge him. With one exception, the media is nothing more than the propaganda ministry for the democrat party.

I suspect you are correct. Somewhere in the mid-70s, while still in the Navy, my carrier visited Portsmouth, England for about a 10 day stay.  My group of about 7 friends found a pub, and we met up there every afternoon after doing the daily sightseeing.

The local patrons of that pub took us in like we had been going there forever.  One family (2 adults, 2 kids) invited the whole group of us for Sunday dinner.

The day before our ship departed, there was a big going away party, and each one of us was given a set of darts - not new darts, but personally owned darts.  The bartender, a retired Royal Marine, told us quietly that they had drawn straws the day before to see who was going to get to give away darts.

It was one of the most enjoyable port visits I ever made.
This too shall pass.

The OP really backfired on the janitor.  He wouldn't admit it but he really got his ass handed to him with the "white people problems" exchange.  He didn't acknowledge his white privilege and that makes you an automatic racist at the DUmp.

I worked in the restaurant industry for ten years.  I have never once seen anyone spit in the food or whatever this pinhead was "expecting" his waiter to do.  If someone did that, he'd have every cook and manager in the kitchen on his ass in a second and would probably be fired on the spot.

There are stories out there of Teddy Kennedy holding out his glass if his wine was running low and berating the waitstaff in the process.  There's a good reason for the "Limousine Liberal" term.
