"Damn Kommies" Max Klinger MASH
« on: October 14, 2017, 10:31:39 AM »

It seems the DUmp has been infested with a big Red Scare Virus.  Hard to believe but true.  In addition they are also channeling McCarthyism and embracing a pornographer as their savior.  Are they paranoid or can it be true?  Has Vlad impaled Skinflute and now running the DUmp?? EGAD??  Where is Elad??  Can no one help these citizens of the Inteweb's own Gotham??

First we have the original link but I will also include a couple optional links to buttress my claims at the end.

Is DU very busy here overnight? Is there lots of traffic?

What would account for that? Many DUers overseas? Lots and lots of night owls?

1. Yep, I see some OP's get lots of recc's overnight. Which is good for them but kinda surprising.

4. DU doesnt seem as busy as it used to be.

GD used to be much more active, with new threads every few minutes. Now it seems I can go away for a few days, come back, and the same threads are on the first page - even with less than 50 replies.

No idea why; I kind of miss the more active days.

7. No idea.

I’m simply commenting on what I see on a daily basis.

I rarely pay attention to recs, never have.

10. I can tell you why. It was almost impossible to post on DU for 18 months.

Lots of people never returned.

13. Yeah, I figured that had something to do with it.

I think the ugliness of the primary season turned a lot of people off the site too.

8. Lots of juries at night with one-sided decisions.

I’m thinking that the workers are in Ukraine. They probably don’t get paid enough to live in Moscow.

17. So in your experience is there a lot of traffic during USA overnight hours? Could you see an OP

racking up lots of Recc's overnight while most Americans are asleep?

15. Im one of the weird time posters....

Im a night owl and with my work I’m often up in till the early am hours a couple nights a week. Likewise, I’m often up before dawn on others days. That being said, I do find it “strange” that it’s not unusual for me to be called to jury duty at odd hours.

18. Honestly it depends on the night

Anecdotally it seems like there’s much more night activity Monday through Friday, the weekends slow down significantly at night.

28. In my experience as a UK based DUer (and a current host of the main forums), no, traffic is light

though you seem to be mainly concerned with the number and timing of recs, which isn't something I pay attention to. But in terms of posts made, no, it's quiet.

Depends on when you count as 'night', of course - after midnight Pacific time? Before 6am Eastern? That's only a 3 hour window.

For posts, it's fairly easy to count, if you look at the site at the start and end of a period. GD has the majority of posts (in the last 30 days, 117,626, compared to 23,688 in LBN, and 4,596 in Video; few groups are active these days). So, it'll be easiest just to look at the GD figures. For that, get the unique number assigned to the most recent post - look at the most recently updated thread in GD, and the latest post in it. The 'permalink' URL for that post ends "pid=9709645" while I compose this. Do the same a few hours later, subtract the old 'pid' from the new one, and you find out how many posts to GD were made in that period.

22. Not really. Things move slower off the front page.

That actually could explain some things.

I do wish that there was a way to denote country of IP origin in posts for MIR team members. Along with blocking known proxies/TOR exit nodes (or flagging those IPs specifically if they want to keep access for people who might be trying to bypass censorship).

That might require more coding than Skinner can implement, though. And I am fairly sure he has a day job, and might even have... omg! a life...   Even if he feels it's worth coding in, given the issues of hacking and compromise and bots, it wouldn't happen overnight.

25. If you want. Could help MIR identify early trolls.

But they do a pretty good job, and Skinner may not want to potentially discourage expat Dems who vote, military Dems stationed overseas (they do exist), etc.

26. I'm among those who can't keep a sleeping schedule

But recently in an effort to improve my sleep I have been shutting off my computer at midnight. I used to leave it on 24/7 and would be tempted to wake it up and check DU when I'd wake in the wee hours of the morning. Since it takes several minutes to boot I am not turning it on to simply check for updates at those times.

It's Googlesky bots.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Considering the majority of DU is sucking off the gov'ment teat and do not have to get up in the morning to go to work, it is no surprise why it is so busy when normal people sleeping.
