I can't find anything to watch lately and seeing as I only get over the air analog tv there is never much on. I'm just looking for some recommendations of films to watch.
I don't care about the language as long as it has subtitles and I don't care about genre as long as it's not horror.
I'm just looking for something good to watch and though I'd ask.
-
I'm not the best person to ask. Haven't seen a movie in forever. I can recommend any of my only movies that I own.
Smokey and the Bandit
Point Break
Trainspotting
Rob Roy
Gone with the Wind
The Sound of Music
The World's Fastest Indian
See, I was no help. :-)

I know you are a dude but you are a lib so you would probably love my favorite movie of all time: Auntie Mame (Rosalind Russell not Carol Bernett).
Storyline
Mame is an unconventional individualist socialite from the roaring 20's. When her brother dies, she is forced to raise her nephew Patrick. However, Patrick's father has designated an executor to his will to protect the boy from absorbing too much of Mame's rather unconventional perspective. Patrick and Mame become devoted to each other in spite of this restriction, and together journey through Patrick's childhood and the great depression, amidst some rather zaney adventures.

Hmm... sounds interesting BEG. Downloading now. :)

Since he's a lib, he'd probably like Brokeback Mountain. :fuelfire:

Make sure you download the one with Rosalind Russell.

I did. And its the one in English. (There was a Spanish one too) LOL
Am watching it now.

I watched Tron Legacy the other night and it was pretty entertaining.
Gamer was pretty good too.
Day Breakers was pretty good too.
If you are looking for more classic movies, Bringing Up Baby is one of the funniest movies ever made. And the original 1960s version of The Producers is one of my favorites.
If you are looking for a date movie, my girlfriend and I watched How Do You Know with Reese Witherspoon the other night. It was flawed but okay.
Of all the newer movies I listed here, I would say Gamer was the most satisfying from the action-adventure along with some novelty perspective.

Smokey and the Bandit
Vanishing Point
Mad Max
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Two Lane Blacktop
White Lightning
hmmm, these seem to have a common theme

Still waiting for Redbox to hurry up with that one.
I've seen the original and the remake... Flight of the Phoenix (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377062/) is worth renting.

We like all the movies made by Sherwood, "Facing the Giants," "Fireproof," and "Flywheel" (it's less professional quality). Just watched "True Lies" again, well worth the time. Most of the movies we own are Disney, or at least G rated, probably not terribly thrilling for other adults. Mr Smith likes "Whose Line is it Anyway?" and all the John Wayne movies.
-
Demolition Man
Transporter, The
V For Vendetta
True Grit
True Lies
McLintock!
Deathrace
Backdraft
Virtuosity
Remember the Titans
There's just a small list for you.
-
Demolition Man? Is that the one where Stallone can't figure out how to wipe his backside?
srsly....

Just watched Buried. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1462758/)
Now there is an intense movie.
Paul is a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it's a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.
IMDb 7.2

Well if subtitles don't bother you I have a great one to recommend. It's called Bang Rajan. It came out in 2000. It's the true story set in the 1700s about when the Burmese invaded and went after the Siamese capital. Only a small village stood in their way. It's a story of a few fighting very many. Overwhelming odds. Very inspirational film and pretty good battle scenes.
-
I just watched this great movie called Shades of Gray about UFO nut/hoaxer Gray Baker on Netflix. It was a very interesting movie about a very interesting character who gave us such fictional characters as the Men in Black.

A couple nights ago, Mrs E asked me if I'd go see "Jane Eyre" with her.
Knowing that this story is the ultimate Gothic romance and completely buried in the British tradition, and realizing that it was likely to be the ultimate chick flick, I had to ask her how many points I'd get if I went.
She said, "Many."
So I went. It was a good flick. I didn't fall asleep, so it passes the Eupher Test of Interesting Movies.
Mrs E later said it was the best "Jane Eyre" she'd ever seen. Evidently she's seen every "Jane Eyre" film ever produced by mankind. :whatever:

FANTASTIC film, Gunny!!! And here I thought I was the only American besides Tarrantino who'd seen it. :-)
Compac, I'd also recommend Touch of Evil with Charlton Heston (if you like film noir), Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf with Burton and Taylor (if you like great acting and better writing), Invictus with Morgan Freeman (a really underrated sports film about Mandela and the 1995 South African rugby team), and Marcus Nispel's brilliant 2003 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (if you like just plain awesome).
I'm planing on doing a blog post about the Texas Chainsaw movie in the next day or so, largely because I believe it to be a masterpiece of horror and suspense. It also occurred to me that that is the first time I've gone to see a film in the theater on multiple occasions in I don't know how long. Actually, I think the last time I did that was when Carrie first came out.
Bottom line, if the Carrie ending scared the shit out of you as much as it continues to scare me, you're gonna LOVE this one.

Watched Defending Your Life this past weekend, it was a great movie.
-
I tend to like classic and/or campy SF and war/adventure/historical movies, here's a few I can watch again and again:
Zulu
When Worlds Collide
Kelly's Heroes
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai
The Horse Soldiers
Excalibur
Last of the Mohicans
Fellowship of the Ring
-
Zulu is an awesome classic war movie. The ending with the two sides singing back and forth before the final battle is the perfect device to ramp up the tension.
I put in a bid for Network (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074958/). One million internet bux to anyone who can tell me what the movie is about.
-
Watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356910/) last night. Pretty good.
A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Just watched a documentary film called Generation Zero. (http://www.generationzeromovie.com)
“Generation Zero†was written and directed by awarding-winning director, Stephen K. Bannon (“In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed,†“Titus“). In addition Mr. Bannon and Alan Peterson (Hilary The Movie, Hype: The Obama Effect) acted as producers.
“This film is about a crisis – one that is as profound as The Revolution, The Civil War, or The Great Depression and WWII,†says Bannon. “The title ‘Generation Zero’ is ironic, as it refers to both the Baby Boomers and the generation born today: the one generation whose greed and fiscal mismanagement has destroyed the financial legacy and inheritance of the other.â€
======================================
A nice film from a conservative perspective. Said to have helped kick off the tea party.
National Tea Party Convention to Present a Special Screening: ‘Generation Zero’ — The Truth About the Financial Meltdown (http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/bighollywood/2010/02/05/national-tea-party-convention-to-present-a-special-screening-generation-zero-the-truth-about-the-financial-meltdown/)
">>> Andrew Breitbart will provide introductory remarks concerning the film. Breitbart will also be introducing keynote speaker, Gov. Sarah Palin the following evening. >>>"
This same producer is coming out with another film "The Undefeated" (http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogtownhall.com/2011/05/24/the_undefeated_to_document_gov_palins_record_in_ia_debut.thtml) to Document Gov. Palin's Record in IA Debut.
"A full-length feature film, The Undefeated documents Governor Palin's record and answers questions about her resignation that continue to perturb some potential supporters, Scott Conroy, Real Clear Politics reported tonight. The project commenced over six months ago when Gov. Palin approached Rebecca Mansour, a close aide of hers with the directive to request Stephen K. Bannon, a conservative film maker produce a video series. Bannon agreed on one condition: that it be a full-length feature movie and that he finance the $1 million cost." I just watched Manufacturing Dissent, one of the slew of Michael Moore and Me movies that came out a few years ago. It was pretty good but not as good as Team America.

Absolutely. Thats the advantage of having the movie on disc. :)
Also watched another recently called 2010 Economic Crisis (http://vodpod.com/watch/3827234-2010-economic-crisis-continues-40-min-video) that was pretty good. About 1:48 long.

This week, I watched Fat Head, Dalekmania, and Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!
Fat Head was very good and I recommend it to anybody. Dalekmania is only for Doctor Who fans and NQH is only for people who love exploitation movies and can put up with Quentin Tarantino making comments that don't really add anything to the discussion.
If you are looking for a good example of Ozploitation outside of Mad Max, I recommend Razorback.

I had never heard of Dalekmania. I did find while googling it, that there is a 1965 movie called Dr. Who and the Daleks starring Peter Cushing available online for free. http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi4137682713/

Cool. I've wanted to see the two Peter Cushing movies for a while. Saw them both a couple of times when I was a kid before I had ever heard of The Doctor.

Just watched Wag the Dog (1997) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120885/) again.
Interesting reminder ...

I forgot about this topic! Loots of good suggestions though:) I'll have to search some up and watch. I've got a bit more time right now and I'm getting board.
The only movie I've watched recently was an odd but very good German one I stumbled upon when on IMDB one day.

Looks interesting, I started on a German documentary on the Nazis and art last night but it was late and I wasn't in the mood for subtitles. Looked very promising, though.
I watched an Irish movie the other week called Intermission staring Colm Meany that was pretty good.
-
Just watched Battle: Los Angeles. Pretty good film actually.

I loved that movie. I even went to the theater to see it. Of course the gf thought it was "meh". My only complaint was there ALWAYS has to be at least ONE tough hispanic chick in movies like that now. I guess we could thank Aliens for that.
She did how ever love Inception. OMG that was almost 3 hours and my ass is still numb from that borefest. She thinks I didn't get it but I got it. The Scrooge McDuck comic they ripped the plot from was more entertaining.

war of the worlds. which I recommend.

Friday night I went to see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and I can recommend it. I wasn't sure going in since it sounded like it could be kind of a cheesy representation that could be mocking of such a great man, but I liked it. It kind of comes off like the new Batman movies with Christian Bale, except with an actual historical person. And I was pleasantly surprised by the politics--all of the vampires were democrats. Abe probably wouldn't be flattered by it but I think it comes closer to the truth than Oliver Stone's movie about JFK.
