Starting today, our government will need to grapple with a set of arbitrary budget cuts that will hurt the economy, make life harder for middle-class families, and threaten our national security. That's what Washington means when it talks about the sequester.

Not everyone will feel the consequences of these cuts immediately, but if sequestration is allowed to continue, it will make life more difficult for Americans all across the country. That's a fact that no one disputes.

And the reason we are here is because some members of Congress have made a choice to prioritize these cuts over closing tax loopholes for the wealthy. But there is still time for them to make a different choice and undo this manufactured crisis.

Today, President Obama discussed this situation and answered questions from the press. "This is not a win for anybody," he said. "This is a loss for the American people."

Republicans wanted to close loopholes to avert the fiscal cliff , but Teh Won insisted on tax hikes to punish the "rich".  The GOP agreed to that as long as cuts were made later on.  Obama is moving the goal posts.

Why didn't they prepare for this?  As a family if we know of something that will cause our family to have less income, especially if we have known since August of 2011, then we would be well prepared for it when the time came.  2.2%?  I can cut that out by cutting a few date-nights, Redbox Rentals, and one weekend vacation to Gatlinburg.

Just like the Government could easily cut this out of some needless programs.  Funding Gay Pigeon research, or the affects of Rainbows on ants or some bullshit.  The financial responsibility of this administration and the past administrations and our government in general is a freaking joke.

There are a few slight differences in your analogy:
1) You and your spouse have a budget and live within your means
2) You and your spouse set reasonable spending priorities (i.e. basic food, rent, utilities first, entertainment later)

Rush played a clip from the preezy today and he had the freaking nerve to say that this sequester isn't the Apocalypse that some folks are saying it is.
0bama was the one going around saying that it was going to be the Apocalypse, now he's blaming other people for using the rhetoric that he was pushing.

This man has no shame whatsoever.  

What I predict will happen is, the media will go around the country looking for people who have been laid off for whatever reason and claim that the big bad repukes forced them out of a job. Once again 0bama gets a major pass for the hell that he and his policies have brought upon us all.

Then on top of all of that his blind sheep will happily post on every social network how the repukes ruined their lives. By the end of the month we will hear that the repukes went into everyone's house and made the milk in their fridge spoil a week early, and that they snuck in and moved the furniture in the living rooms so that everyone will stub their toes on the couch in the middle of the night.

Well, when you look back over the last 50 years or so of what's been going on in this country, nothing should be a surprise. Plenty of people saw the writing on the wall and have written about it.  It was just never taken seriously I guess.  Everything moves forward and I feel like enough is in place that it's moving at an accelerated pace.  I don't know at this point what can stop it now.  After Obama's done, there will be others like him, or worse, to take his place, because they have been/are so successful.

I know what you mean.  But even if Romney had won, they would have just come on stronger in the 2016 election, and the media would be there demonizing Romney every step he took.  We need a candidate who "gets it" and has the ability to get people to wake up to what's been happening to this country, but we have such a huge handicap that I don't know if it's possible.

Prentice's "Fatal Sequence" sounds reasonable, but it is not supported in history. It has never happened.

"Courage" is a positive individual trait; men are courageous, not nations.

"Liberty" is also individual; no government in history has actually practiced the supremacy of individual liberty (including the United States).

"Selfishness" is an amoral (neither moral nor immoral) individual trait, which cannot be generalized to a whole nation. A nation, like a corporation, must act in its own self-interest to survive; to an outsider, a nation's self interest would be described as "selfish".
