Preached today. There were about 10 there. The nursing home was a bit depressing. Only about 2 were responsive. There was a lot of need there. It went well overall.

Today was a good day.

I'm still excited for school and being able to preach has lit a fire in my belly. Its been great so far. Have a class called "Methods of Bible Study" (My teacher looks like Gary Sinese) just to teach us how to acquire
1: Knowledge of God
2: Knowledge of self (Why am I here? What's my purpose?)
3: Discernment of Truth

Was able to go soul-winning for a little today. I've been sick so I haven't been able to go since last Wednesday. A kid was on his way to football practice he was probably 14. He got the strap to his chestpads caught in the front wheel so I got some tools. I asked him if he had a church home and he said he has been to my church a few times. Well we got his pads free after taking the wheel off and I invited him to church and told him that he should stop by soon.

I've been enjoying my time on Sundays too. I help out in the Junior church. I help in the 4-6 grade class. You see some of these kids come in from the buses and some are from bad homes. Some of them smell, some of them are dirty. You can tell right away just by the way they act. Some of them are forced by their parents to go because well the parents don't want to deal with them for 2 or 3 hours. Some of them just act so negative to you. Some of them like to cause trouble, but there's hope. You see some of these kids come back week after week. You see them change in front of you, and you can't help but smile when they go up to you like a friend. A month or so ago they probably hated you, but now they're friends with you they're excited to be at church. Sooner or later some of them accept Jesus as their savior. Some of them change so much since they first started there that sometimes their parents come to church with them whether it be by car or through our bus ministry.

There was a kid who came to me Sunday and he said "You don't remember me." and I said "I remember you Andrew" and he just went "Oh."

I'm kinda tired of people telling me that being a Chaplain is wrong to go into the ministry. I've had a few tell me "You're going to be ministering to all denominations. You'll be ministering to homosexuals. You'll be watering down the gospel." If that was true than why has God put a burden in my heart for our military? Is that not a mission field? If all that is true than isn't that the perfect time to minister, minister to the ones in sin?

So I've been profiled.

Teacher was trying to think of an example in English today on what an adverbial phrase is. She's like "What's that saying from Star Trek?" she looks right at me too.

It shocked me and I just laughed a bit. "Boldly go where no man has gone before."

Uh, that's a split infinitive. The verb being "to go", the offender slips in the word "boldly" in between "to" and "go."

To boldly go [where no man has gone before.]

An adverb can describe a place.

So I think I got Stephanie's family's approval. They've been a lot more nicer to me lately. Approaching me more. They've been asking my sister questions about me they seem over all happy.

Been busy lately, but its good. I'm working on my sermon for the 21st. I'm changing it from Psalms 91 to something else. Gonna be a testimony message since that's what I know. I know about myself more than anything in the Bible. The text will probably be about Israel's captivity.

I figured a parallel comparison would be more compelling. Why did Israel go into captivity? Their sin. They were slaves not only physically, but spiritually as well. That's what we are. When we're slaves to the flesh, we're slaves to sin.

That's the basic premise.

So this week we had a teen revival. Wow. 80+ kids every night. At least 40 saved. I lead 2, Adam and Kresean. Powerful stuff. My step sister got saved as well. she was a tough nut to crack as well. And already she told her mom that she had to go to church. Her mom wasn't too pleased I can assume. It was amazing though. My step sister is coming back. Kresean lives in the apartment complex a block away from me. I told him we have a bus that could pick him up. He is willing to walk to church.

If you think that just by the world we live in that we can't have revival you gotta get your head out of the sand.

We're in the book of Ruth in one of my classes and it is very interesting. Technically Jesus is part Gentile. Ruth the mother of Jesse the father of David was a Moabite. Very interesting.

I get to preach today in Junior Church. My friend I mentioned in Prayer requests is in charge of that class. I'm doing my Joshua 10 sermon for them since its about the power of prayer. Believe me we've been praying hard for the past week. The Junior Church is going to make cards for him and we'll probably visit him later today to give them to him. Anyway, he's responding well to medicine, and he might not need a transplant if things go exceptionally well with it.

Hello, I’m Jonathan and I go to Florida Baptist College.

I had to google map to see where this school was and I see you're in Tampa; more specifically in Town 'N Country.  I grew up in Tampa just North of Carrollwood.  Currently my son is attending college at a small school in Temple Terrace (in the East part of Tampa in case you're not familiar with the area).

Small world.

Hey, CC!

Here is an interesting group that I came across a few years back as I was scanning the frequency bands on my Ham Radio.

The Spirit Net (http://www.thespiritnet.net/)

I listen in on them occassionally. They still operate their net every night.

My next door neighbor's son is in Bible College in Louiseville. He's 6'8" tall. Just think how being preached at by giant will be.

In my post about Jesus being part Gentile I missed a generation. It is Ruth, Obed, Jesse, and then David.

Anyways, I'm going to get in trouble one day. I have a best friend Matt. We always sit together and talk during class. Usually they're just off the wall comments to the subject. We like to answer questions in History and one of us will go. "My associate and I say that..." That sort of thing. Well today we're in the book of Ruth and there was a typo. In our notes it said something like "Boaz wanted to pout out a blessing to Ruth." It was pout instead of pour. The teacher, older man, was struggling to pronounce the word so I said to my friend Matt "I think its poot." We were struggling to keep from laughing. Then later on when in Ruth it talks about giving someone their shoe when you wanted to buy something I gave him my shoe. Whenever I get married I intend to have Matt as my best man.

Remember when I talked about the teen revival? Well my Step Sister got saved during it, and I've seen her more since then then I have the last 2 or 3 years combined. She's actually being friendly and what not. Pretty amazing what the Lord can do for your family.

So today I learned about why people hate Baptists. We're rebels. Two months before the Declaration of Independence was signed Rhode Island succeeded from England. Rhode Island at the time was predominately Baptist. They felt the need for religion freedom. Because they rebelled first the English sent a large occupation force, but they found heavy resistance. In fact the resistance was so bad that the English left and decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

In fact there's a story about a church there that saw an English ship outside it's window and saw it was stuck and the sailors were leaving. They paused Sunday morning services went out on boats, took the two sailors left behind on guard and put them on shore. After they burned the ship. If I had to guess it  was probably the Gaspee Affair. After they burned the ship they continued Sunday service.

Today in America we would not have religious freedom if Baptists did not have support it. You wouldn't have separation of church and state without their support to people like Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Why? Episcopalians (Another name for the Church of England) at the time were huge in Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut. They wanted the church run by the state. Baptists believed that freedom of religion would be better and that the state should have no authority over them but God. Because of Baptists we don't need licenses to preach. The state doesn't deserve to have authority over who can and cannot preach. In fact Patrick Henry defended 3 Baptist preachers who were arrested because they did not have licenses. They were found innocent.

Even British Baptists supported the American Baptists saying that Religious Freedom was more important than financial gain to the English.

General Cornwallis put a large bounty on a man named Richard Furman because he feared him. Cornwallis is quoted as having said "feared the prayers of that godly youth(Furman) more than the armies of Sumter and Marion." President James Monroe remembered this later and had Furman preach to congress and government leaders.

Even today people still hate Baptists. We're not mainstream. While churches leave the KJV Bible we still have it. while they listen to all the other music, we still have the old stuff. While the Pastor is wearing jeans and a t-shirt, we still wear suits.

Also I had a joke.
There is one thing God and I only disagree on, and that is the meat offering in the Old Testament. He allows cakes as an offering, and I'm a pie guy.

I volunteered to help the church with their kickball outreach program. Its free and these little kids up to 6th grade can play. My team has the most 4 and 5 yr olds. Its tiring. They have fun though so its all good you know?  Its like herding cats really.
