Some states allow early voting.  I voted last Saturday.

I voted last Saturday as well - God Bless Texas!  :-)

And hold onto your pantaloons Vesta - these days, it's possible to vote without even going to a polling place.  You can mail it in! :panic:

One of these days, early voting will make it to New Hampshire along with dental hygeine and public schooling.

Is that the one?

If so what the hell is it supposed to mean?  Obama isn't an R.  Schumer isn't an R.  Bloomberg isn't an R. (and anyone who tries to say he is is a dumbass).

Sparkey what is with your problem with the State of Maine?

A beautiful state with a tremendous sea coast, and inland  many, many miles of forest and farm lands.   Dover-Fox Croft has one of the best VA, hospitals in the US.======Land is still cheap up there and the towns are small but still working to make sure the year round residents have jobs.

You would be surprised at the big money up North,    Big lakes with small aircraft to send the owners off to their work places out of state.  With all this it means that there has to be aircraft mechanics and those mechanics that tend to the huge tractors needed to work the potato fields.  People to work on the cars that get a beating down those dirt roads.

A quiet State if one moves away from the sea coast and that does not have to be far, 20 miles away will do you.

Abbot Maine had 20 acres up for sell with 100 foot frontage on a lake back 10 years ago and I looked into it , should have cashed in my 401K as it went for $30.000 bucks.  Darn like my parents that in the late 40's did not buy into Miami Beach.---we only regret the things we did not do.

Went to a wedding on Mount Catalacks at sun rise ---cold as hell in July.  Awe as the sun rose exposing the islands in the distance.     Helped that the Indian drummers were playing in the distance.--------Some sort of tribal thing for that day I guess.

Head for the shore and a dive for the fisherman, listen to them gripe and complain, there is nothing wrong with Maine except the Federal government coming in and driving 4 generations of fishermen out of work.

I had to go to the library yesterday for school and there was a line out the door at about 2pm. Its not a small library either. Maybe 50-80 people were waiting to vote, and as some were leaving more were coming.

In Marion County Fla. we had two weeks early voting...and there were letters to the editor in the local paper whining about Gov. Scott not extending the early voting for Sunday before  election day.

You can never give liberals anything without them bitching they don't have enough. No matter what it is.

I intend to vote on election day. I live in a small community and there is never a line when I show up.

Early voting is a bad mistake. Campaigns take time to find their rhythm, their resonance, with the electorate. It behooves the populace to treat elections as a welcome political corrective rather than a task that needs "conveniencing."

And there are many events up until election day that can have a significant effect upon the electorate and, thus, their vote selection (c.f.:  Benghazi)

But, more than anything, it is a time for our polity to find comity and there's nothing like spending a few minutes (or a few hours if it comes to it) with your fellow citizens on Election Day to accomplish that.

With all the complaints about our 50/50 country, Election Day should remind us that the first task of a polity is to be one.

Then I guess you also eliminate all voting by our military members, too.

Come now. First, you're being presumptuous and silly, not to mention unnecessarily rude. And you may hardly be regarded as either conservative or civil if you insist on conducting yourself in the same sort of rude, ruthless manner that Leftists regularly employ to shout down or otherwise silence opinions with which they disagree. So I will trust you, sir or madam, to alter your embarrassing discourse.

Of course no one is talking about absentee or military ballots. Those are each special circumstances and handled accordingly.

Rather, Election Day is an important civic event in the life of a country and we should not transform it into an exercise of convenience.

In fact, perhaps a little less convenience might be in order if we want not just a voting electorate but also an informed one.

These are tough, complex times and we need our people, not just our "leaders," to be well informed. Diluting the beneficent civic effects of a unified election day is, it seems to me, not in our best interests.

That's all; nothing more sinister than that.

I said my wife and voted early since we didn't know if we'd be in town. Then you called early voting stupid.

Then you intimated that we were uninformed.

That's an attack on me and my wife, and I won't be "silly" supporting you to change a damned thing about what I said. I suggest that you should be careful about what you say about members here.

Sparkey what is with your problem with the State of Maine?

Oh many and varied are the ways in which I could point out the ****-up-ed-ness of that which is Maine.  It's like MA (and once actually was) but stupider.

A beautiful state with a tremendous sea coast, and inland  many, many miles of forest and farm lands.   Dover-Fox Croft has one of the best VA, hospitals in the US.======Land is still cheap up there and the towns are small but still working to make sure the year round residents have jobs.

Land is still cheap because nobody ****ing lives there.  Land is also cheap in other places where people DO want to live.  And as far as tremendous sea coasts, sure, they're pretty, but so is Hawaii, California, Florida, Alaska, and a million other places.  Mainers (Maineiacs) had nothing to do with their creation.

That "big money" is usually "from away" as you put it.  Show me a "rich" native Mainer.  I say you won't find any, because anyone with $100 and a running car has already left.  Why is it, for the first time in 210 years, the population of NH now exceeds Maine?  I think we both know why.

If by quiet you mean DEAD, with only the howls of the oxy-ridden addicts, then yeah, I guess you're right.  And 20 acres with 100 FEET of frontage?  Wow, what a ****ing bargain!

Cold in July--yeah, that's what I want.  And I've lived far closer to Native locales than you can ever hope to, dearest (think Four Corners region of New Mexico--I graduated HS there, remember?)  And the only OTHER thing besides the federal government driving the fishermen out of work is the state which ass-rapes their people with taxes and fees that rival Califunny.  First thing I told Scoobie when she was doing the job hunt was to not even consider a job in Maine.  Gee, wonder why?

(We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.)
