The President of the United States is a traitor.

The news the CIA extricated a secret agent who worked for decades in the Kremlin to monitor and report Putin’s doings, fearing Donald J. Trump would out an American spy to the Russian president, shows the U.S. national security apparatus doesn’t trust the President to keep secrets from our nation’s enemies.

That fact is amazing. And it reinforces through eyewitness reporting what Mueller documented: Putin and Russia helped elect Trump, Trump welcomed the help, Trump returned the favor through policies and actions to help Putin, and Trump has done nothing but lie about it all.

CIA claims this is fake. White House denies it even happened. Even the NYTimes is calling CNN out as fake liers.

ater reports published by The New York Times and The Washington Post contradicted part of CNN's story.

Former intelligence officials told the Times that there was no public evidence indicating that Trump directly endangered the informant. Other officials said the extraction stemmed from concerns about the media's scrutiny of the agency.

CIA Director for Public Affairs Brittany Bramell said in a statement to CNN that its narrative for the story was "simply false."

"Misguided speculation that the President's handling of our nation's most sensitive intelligence — which he has access to each and every day — drove an alleged exfiltration operation is inaccurate," Bramell said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday slammed a CNN report that a CIA asset in Russia was “exfiltrated” because the spy agency’s officials were worried about President Trump’s handling of classified information.

“Yeah, I’ve seen that reporting. The reporting is materially inaccurate,” Pompeo said during a press briefing at the White House.

The story appeared to confirm the worst fears about Donald Trump and his sometimes reckless public discourse. CNN’s Jim Sciutto reported yesterday that the CIA was forced to exfiltrate a mole deep within the Kremlin after Trump revealed too much intelligence in a one-on-one meeting with Vladimir Putin in 2017. The loss of this asset meant that Trump had essentially blinded the CIA just at a time when Russian aggression had escalated.

Sounds damning — except that wasn’t how it happened at all, both the New York Times and Washington Post report this morning. The exposure of the asset didn’t come from Trump, but instead from media reporting on Russian election interference from intel sources that revealed enough to put the asset at risk. The Post explicitly rejects Sciutto’s conclusions:

As American officials began to realize that Russia was trying to sabotage the 2016 presidential election, the informant became one of the C.I.A.’s most important — and highly protected — assets. But when intelligence officials revealed the severity of Russia’s election interference with unusual detail later that year, the news media picked up on details about the C.I.A.’s Kremlin sources.

C.I.A. officials worried about safety made the arduous decision in late 2016 to offer to extract the source from Russia.
