http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=310x557You know, I've noticed a lot of "guests" are coming in to view the automotive forum, which is all good--and if they're primitives, it's even better because the primitives get considerably illuminated.
Anyway--but this is an old bonfire from Skins's island, as traffic in the automotive forum over there isn't as heavy as traffic in the automotive forum here.

How to figure out miles per gallon that I am getting in my car????
I don't know the formula to use. I think you subtract something from something then divide something else by something else, but I don't know what.
My numbers are: 43,647 miles on my car and 6.825 gallons of gas. Then: 43,840 and 6.729.
Help!
Thanks

1. Well, you went 193 miles on 6.729 gallons of gas.
Basically, you fill the tank and note the mileage. Then, next time you fill the tank note the mileage AND note the number of gallons purchased. Then, subtract the mileages and divide the result by the number of gallons purchased.
Actually, I don't think the paddy primitive wanted to know how to do it; I suspect rather more the paddy primitive wanted someone else to figure it out for her, and a second primitive obliges, although nearly half a year later:

2. My math:
43,840 - 43,647 = 193 miles
6.729 gallons used (assuming you filled the tank both times.
193 / 6.729 = 28.68 mpg.
Many cars have a trip odometer, that you can reset to 0 by pushing a button. I usually reset mine when I fill the tank, so I know at a glance how many miles I've driven on that tankful.
My fellow alum Skins needs to jazz that forum up over there, give it some life.
