Senate Rejects Fairness Doctrine, But Dems ‘Open Back Door to Censorship’

(CNSNews.com) – The Senate passed a Broadcaster Freedom Amendment to a D.C. voting rights bill on Thursday by a vote of 87-11. But Democrats countered with an amendment that seeks to promote “diversity” in media ownership.

*snip*

The Senate on Thursday also passed an amendment by Sen. Dick Durban (D-Ill.) that seeks to achieve the same goals of the Fairness Doctrine through backdoor FCC regulations, Republican critics say.

Durbin’s amendment requires the FCC to “take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership." Republicans view the “diversity” call as an attempt to muzzle successful syndicated radio programs. They  say the Durbin amendment would hurt small, local radio stations that depend on popular syndicated programming for listeners and revenue.

The Durbin amendment passed 57-41; no Republican supported it.

*snip*

As CNSNews.com reported earlier, Acting FCC Chairman Michael Copps says he doesn’t support the return of the Fairness Doctrine, but he does think government has a role in enforcing media “diversity.” That role includes re-examining licensing and other regulations for radio stations -- including AM stations dominated by talk radio -- to make them “more reflective” of public interests.

MORE

I would love to hear Dickie "Dirtbag" Durbin prove that "diversity" is a positive contribution to society.   :whatever:

Corrected for the true meaning:
That role includes re-examining licensing and other regulations for radio stations -- including AM stations dominated by talk radio -- to make them “more reflective” of  what WE believe to be the public interests.

This has been and will continue to be the theme of this administration.

"We are NOT going to defy the constitution outright, we are going to sneak our policies in the back door so that no one can see what we are really up to."

They have been talking about this on talk radio for the past three weeks.  Even our local conservative guy here in KC said last week that they will openly be against the Fairness Doctrine but they will impose their will through other policies maybe even more insidious policies to shut down conservative talk radio.  And it is true.  They will....or at least they will try.  Nothing scares this administration more than those who are exposing the cracks and the real agenda of this administration.  The truth is something they really can't afford to have repeated day after day.

Notice how the MSM and the WH keeps concentrating on discussion of the economy?  It is the smoke screen for the other policies that he is changing and implementing right and left.  Thinking that Americans are so concerned with their own jobs, etc. that they won't even think about or care about what he is doing in Washington.  This is why we need congress members with freakin' BALLS!  To confront on ALL sides and NOT back down just because they want to cause hyperfocus on ONE issue while derailing so many others.  It is nothing more than the parlor tricks of local magicians.  Cause your audience to look one way while you throw the trick behind your back on the other side.

Sad thing is, most of those who are "middle of the road" fall for that damn trick every single time.

I've tried this with my wife...............never works.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

We had a local AM station that went from a mix of local talk/sports to Adult Urban,(mostly motown like music) a couple of years ago.  Less than 2 years later they gave it up and now are back to mostly sports with some local news talk. :)  They carry the CUBS.
