Not exactly fair. I'm not saying that Quayle is a genius--he's not--but pick anybody, follow that person around with a mic 24/7, and he/she will say dozens of stupid things. The media was after him like they were after Palin this time around.
Fair enough.
Back in 1988, the media wasn't quite as moonbat as it is now. And Quayle gave the media plenty of ammunition largely because he came from a rich bitch family with plenty of financial and political clout.
At the tender age of 41 - by all accounts pretty much a brat - Quayle gets gussied up for the big time but instead looks like the goofball he is - and the media, being the wolf pack that they are - they don't hesitate to focus on the weak points.
Quayle was your quintessential Momma's boy who got everything he wanted - almost.
I note that Quayle did serve in the Indiana ANAG as an enlisted man, earning his law degree while doing so. He could've gone in as an officer since he already had his bachelor's but for whatever reason, opted not to.
And he was a Wunderkind, burning up the elections with ease.
But he ran into a few problems, not the least of which was running into Lloyd Bentsen - a grizzled veteran who put Quayle smack in his place.
Anyway, I suppose Dan Quayle is a nice enough guy. But I just didn't see him as veep material, much less presidential material. And his constant, never-ending gaffes just made that more and more clear as time went on.
