people unable to donate, check in here...

some of us (like me, unemployed since december) are not in a position to donate but support the site wholeheartedly.

If you are in a similar situation, check in here.

(the reason I do this, is SOMETIMES during a fund drive, people who have donated hold it against those who havent during discussions, assuming nondonators are doing so for political, rather than personal finance, reasons.)

3. For the past two years people have kept my star alive.

This year I hope to make a small donation of my own to keep the star. It won't be as much as I think the site is worth, but I can only afford so much since I'm now on disability and my wife is down to part-time hours.

6. My heart is with DU, my pocketbook not as much.

After finally finding a job after a year of unemployment in July of last year, I was laid off in March. Long story but haven't found a job yet and times are tight. Things will get better, I am counting on Obama.

8. Thank you for posting this thread.

I always feel like a creap when I post with no star. Here is the reason. I lost my job 2years ago and can not seem to find work that I can physically do. I have arthritis and multiple heart problems along with the BIG problem (employment wise) of being 58 years old. Lost my home to forclosure last January. Hubby and I currantly live in a small trailer. Due to a 24 hour hospital stay and recieving a stent for a 99.9 % blockage we have a $42000 medical bills. That left me with 1 blockage of 50% and one of 70%, which kind of slows me down.Medicaid is "frozen" here in MI,so there is no help there. I thank God every day that hubby has a fairly decent job,but money is very tight. Thank you for giving me a thread to vent my reason for not donating at this time. I love DU, it is my "home" and sometimes my sanity.

9. Can't do it this time and it kills me.

This site and the people on it are important to me. Stupid economy.

Oh.  So we go from George Bush's "lousy" economy to Pa Kettle's "stupid" economy.

I've supported DU in the past but more recently I've had to refrain.

18. I am a military widow...living on a military pension of $880.00 a month..

And in case you all don't know it..Congress voted away widows Social Security because they claim if we get a check from the military retirement..we cannot have Social Security as well. We can have one or the other, but not both.

Even though my husband and I both worked for over 20 years OUTSIDE the military after he retired after 20 years in the military...I cant claim it.

So sorry DU...I love this site but I cannot donate and if the cost of living keeps going up I soon will have to chose between heat or food this winter. Still I am luckier than many Americans at this time. At least if I end up living in a dipsy dumpster I will be able to buy some food which is luckier than many.

I haven't kept up with the crooked tale primitive; last I heard, he was sleeping on a couch at a friend's house.  One wonders what's up with this job he recently lost.

20. Too Little Money

I'd really like to contribute.

But I have too little money.

I am over-extended on my credit cards, primarily because I am forced to use them just to buy groceries.

I'll try to set aside a small contribution, and send it in, though.

I just cannot afford to send very much.

26. Yeah, DU is one of my last budgets to cut - unfortunately it has to be cut again.

Thankfully I have internet for business but business is thin. I don't expect to be in business by the end of the year.

31. At the risk of whing...

I was once a proud member and donor to DU (under a different name). Then almost 3 years ago our finances went down the drain. Husband's business dried up and we were struggling. About a year of that and, just as we found out my husband had cancer, I lost my job. A year of paying COBRA rates to get him treated and coming close to losing our house several times has left us really devastated. I feel guilty spending what little we do manage to earn on an internet connection. But, right now, it's my life line. I feel so bad when I see the pleas for donations but we just don't have it. Hope this changes some day.

34. Laid off in March and unpaid for the last 10 months of my completed contract.

I've posted this story on DU so I wont go into more detail, it's too depressing.

I still have a star, but I know it wont be there for long.

How do all these sad sacks afford computers and internet service. They should cancel their internet, and send
that money to Skimmer. They're just selfish, and seem very repugish to me.

Skinners winter sky trip may be to the urinals in Switzer-land.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
