I went to the little store/gas station up on the highway today.  There was a new clerk, a woman I had not seen before.  I gave her a twenty and she burst into tears.

I tried to comfort her by remembering what the DUmmie said about the Lowe's clerk.  I told the woman it would be alright.  She has a job now.  * can't hurt her anymore.

The woman, through her sobs, told me I didn't understand.  She said the picture on the bill reminded her of her recently deceased mother-in-law.  It seems the old bat was loaded but didn't leave the woman and her husband anything in her will.

Lowes now does credit checks on potential employees....or so I've been told.  Their reasoning is that folks with extreme debt have shown to be more likely to steal from the company...again, so I've been told.

If the above is true, the DUmmie is lying.   :thatsright:  nevermind.

A lot of companies do credit checks now.

Another exception, and I've seen it in the securities' industry, is that poor credit really depends on the cause of that situation as to whether or not they will turn someone away. Generally, people can still get in if they submit some sort of explanation later detailing the cause of things like bankruptcy. Now, I don't know about current unpaid debt, that may be a quite a bit different, but mars on the history that have been resolved in one manner or other can still be acceptable.

If this story is true, which I highly doubt, this woman CAN get herself out of debt if she really wants to.  It's called sacrifice and budgeting.  Novel concepts, I know, but it does work.

And he fails to acknowledge that that may be the very reason she is working is to help pay that off and IF it is true, perhaps she just had a bad day where something came up or everything felt a bit overwhelming or maybe she was even having a moment of regret. All my suppositions are warranted given the original poster at DU made an awful lot of assumptions based on a crying cashier with a boatload of debt when he really knows nothing about this lady to understand why she is where she is, what she is doing about it, and the real reason she was crying. For the love of Pete, she could have has PMS and been overemotional about things she normally wouldn't have been.

I wonder how this primitive would react to the fact that the Armed Forces not only do credit checks (of a sort) but background checks which would have them screaming about invasion of privacy from the rooftops.

And let's not even get into what some people in civilian jobs have to go through--background checks, drug testing, financial checks, psychological screenings, etc., etc., etc...

Not only do they do background checks on the person joining the military, their family is also required to go through a background check.  When our sons joined, we had to give them names, SSNs, and other info like that before they could get security clearance.

When I reclassed to signal, I had to obtain a TS-SCI/SSBI. They talked to my parents, friends, teachers, hell, anyone that dropped a name, they talked to that person. They had information on me that I couldn't even recall. They checked my credit, arrest record, MVR, and everything else. It's called national security......but then again, the DUmmies aren't concerned with national security, are they?

BTW, I'm DAMN glad I was able to get a TS. All the military guys on the board will tell you, if you don't get the necessary credentials for a job you're classifying as, what do they do? Reclass you per the needs of the Army. I knew guys who had arrest records that were reclassed to fuel specialists, I.e., you drive a f'n fuel truck, and cooks.

Actually, at one point, there was at least one millionaire working at every Home Depot in the country. Usually the older guys and gals who had been there from the start and were stock-full of stock options. Not like the job is hard or anything.

i dont know about Lowe's.. but Home Depot used to employ a lot of contractors and people who know about tools and such - cause why not employ a retired guy, than some kid who knows nothing?

seems like a no brainer to me.. retired people often have a lot of money. that's why they can afford to work part time, and for a little over minimum wage/

I once met a woman (I don't know her) who started working at Waffle House when she dropped out of high school in the late 1960's.  She was sixteen.

The woman retired in the early 1990's worth over two million dollars.   She was never more than a shift waitress.

She was about 43 when she retired.

That's right. Of course most DUmmies can't make it past the intial screening process for those jobs. I've been interviewed extensively for my own job and for my husband's. I've had numerous neighbors who are going through the process and I've talked to the investigators doing their background checks. I've noticed that no DUmmie has ever posted about "men in suits with badges asking about my neighbor who applied for a govt job". Hmm...

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

well, to work for the govt, you should just be able to say any old thing.

but when adopting a cat or a dog, that requires a full background check.

my daughter adopted a full grown cat almost a year ago - they are STILL calling to check on this cat and where he lives, if he is doing ok.  :whatever:

I really don't remember that.  What I do recall was this--one of my references was asked for the names of four people who knew me, and the WOs went to them, too.  Another one of my references was the former #2 guy in the New York State Police, many, many moons ago.
