It was seventy years ago today that America sent Japanese Americans to our own concentration camps.

On this day in 1942, FDR signed the order that sent them there.

A VERY dark day in our history, indeed.

Correction: It was seventy years ago today that a life-long member of the Democratic Party sent Japanese Americans to our own concentration camps.

They seem to have a bad habit of doing things like that.

It was seventy years ago today that a Progressive President sent Americans to our own Progressive concentration camps. And dammit, now we can't get away with it any more so we have to rely on Planned Parenthood to carry on the work of the Progressive Death Camps.

Why is the old dude--as are most of the primitives, period--so exercised about past wrongs, instead of trying to ameliorate wrongs currently happening?

4. I am doing a report on this...

well the broader issue of how "alien enemies" were treated during WWII. Executive Order 9066, was among the worst things a president has ever done. I can't get my head around how anyone could sign that. It was all bad. The Japanese being arrested. The German sailors, Italian waiters, housewives, children. Then the grab of Japanese and other "alien enemies" from South America. And then the cover up. To this day we know very little of what happened.
Executive Order 9066 was rescinded by Republican president Gerald Ford on February 19, 1976.  Choke on that lurkers.

Wait, what.....a Democrat signed an Executive Order to inter innocent American citizens?

It's a good thing the current socialist in charge isn't a student of history.

One of the two reasons the old dude posted his concern about this is to deflect from his own racism.

"Hey, look, I'm not racist--I'm against this dirty deed that was done by others before I was even born."

He's hoping one forgets that he lives in the third most-affluent county in the United States, in a place that's lily-white, far removed from the diversity of Baltimore.

FDR loved him some fascist totalitarianism, he just thought Hitler did it too fast.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Death camps?   ::) ::) ::) ::)

Yeah, they're getting a little lost in hyperbole over there.  "Concentration camp" just meant a gathering place to confine a large number of people until the truth about the Holocaust death camps emerged after WW2, there were plenty of 'concentration camps' that were collecting points for displaced people/refugees and enemy aliens run by friends and foes from WW1 to the end of WW2.  The death camps were a thing apart, they used the same name to hide their purpose (Although Dachau was originally an actual concentration camp to segregate political enemies, and became a death camp later once the 'Final Solution' started).

There was nothing at all unusual or illegal in rounding up and confining enemy citizens in your own country during war, it was an entirely normal practice in European countries (In the case of WW2, meaning the Axis citizens located within the US were completely fair legal territory for assembly and confinement for the duration).  Where FDR's order went overboard was the racial/ethnic component regardless of actual citizenship, and the expropriation of the property of completely law-abiding US citizens of Japanese ancestry.

Not to defend those horrible actions, but I need to clarify a few things for the DUmbasses:

1) Families were not torn apart.

2) Jewelry, including gold teeth, weren't ripped from the people in the camps and used for the war effort.

3) They were fed, had gardens, and, aside from being interred, had communities.

4) There were no mass murders.

5) Family members were actually allowed to serve in the military, insinuating that many, while disagreeing with it, did understand to some extent the reason behind it.

6) When they were released, they didn't look like skeletons.

This:

Is not the same as this:

Oh, and last I checked, the Jews weren't allowed gardens.

Quote
While each person's experience was as varied as each person, there were some constants such as the cafeteria style mess halls, latrines for bathrooms, and barracks for houses. The concentration camps were, as you know, small communities with schools, medical clinics, farms and social activities. Within the barbed wire fences, those interned were able personalized their "homes" and organize various activities to be as comfortable as possible.

Yes, they were bad and should never be repeated, but to compare them to hellholes such as Auschwitz is utter idiocy.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

Quote
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

Oh my, I see the Jews so loved the German concentration camps that they laid down and refused to be liberated.{DU/mode]

That ain't even funny.....but it is probably close to DUmmie-think.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
