Anyone think DU is getting fanatically leftist?

I started a thread saying I attended a Catholic Church and was hit from all sides.

I've also seen a number of threads with certain members saying Afghanistan under the Taliban was no worse than America.

I expected to fit in here as a progressive but whenever I even give a moderately liberal response I'm called a Freeper.

So I'm wondering if the large percent of DU thinks even progressives aren't liberal enough.

To the far left members...what made you so radical?

So it's not a stretch to believe that DU would be somewhat representative of the population. Also, some people aren't accustomed to criticism,

Not Progressive Underground.

I'm a southern Democrat, not an uber left radical. I side with the Democratic party.

16. And from the forum rules:

Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

The corporatist bankers faction or the Wall Street glee club? Or maybe those Dem's working for the defense industry. It is so hard to tell who to side with in the Dem party!

20. there are plenty of Catholic haters here

I should know and I have been around for awhile.

I too have attended the Catholic Church at different points throughout my life. I am not ashamed of it nor do I regret it and I still identify myself as being a Catholic by faith when asked.

Not all Catholics are pedophiles.

I find the hatred against Catholics on this site to be distressing at best.

There is nothing I can do about it except put such persons that spew their hatred on IGNORE. Sad reality IMO and this is not a "leftist" thing. It is a hateful thing which is no different than others forms of hatred voiced against other groups of people. Sickening nonetheless and I never bother to read any threads about the pope, etc. because I know what will be there in advance.  Hateful people.

30. High school history classes install jingoistic blinders trying to make us all into patriotic, obedient workers.

When those blinders come off, usually by education but sometimes by being sent to fight one of Uncle Sugar's wars of empire, the former wearer tends to go a little crazy and make extreme statements for a while.

I've gotten more radical as I've gotten older. Fortunately, my rhetoric has not.

33. I just love a giant scoop of politics and religion.

See how that works. By the way, at this moment in time DU is not very progressive or liberal and we certainly aren't motivated to go out and change the course of America. We just sit around typing from time to time. Most don't do much more than that.

And on it goes, until a screeching halt.

No wonder they don't allow conservatives into the shallow end to debate with them, they can't even handle debating with each other. It actually seemed like a fairly reasonable discussion by DUmmie standards, but along comes the moderator pissing in the pool.

The DUchebags would know the local Gestapo or NVDK phone number by heart.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
