Anyone had their drivers license scanned at Loaf & Jug when buying beer or cigarettes? I had that happen today and was wondering if that is just a local store or something new they are doing. I paid with cash and afterwards was a little concerned that I had complied. Not sure what all they can extract from the strip, but was worried about my SSN.

1. Did you ask why they are doing that?

7. Yes. She said she can't complete the sale without scanning the license.

23. What if the license or ID did not have a mag strip?

I would have asked her what law states I must submit my personal info to buy booze? All that is required is for the clerk to verify the age of the purchaser.

2. One: don't put your SSN on your license.

Two: Yes, carding people is normal in many locations in the US, to comply with minimum age laws. Card scanners speed the process up and cut down on forgeries.

Three: What's a Loaf and Jug?

5. A convenience store.

Much like a Quick Stop or 7 11. My SSN isn't on the license itself, I was wondering about the strip on the back, if maybe the info was there.

8. It isn't on the license

I was wondering if it is in the little magnetic strip on the back.

if it is contact your DOL and get it removed.

10. It isn't on it, but I was wondering if they can get information off the strip that is on the back. I was coming home and wondered if they can do data mining off of the strip. She never looked at my license, just scanned it.

13. i can't speak to that since the encoding varies state by state.

i would strongly suspect that the private vendor could not access any information from the strip that was not written on the front or back of the license.

but i concede that is just my suspicion

11. They don't need a DL to complete a sale.....

esp if no alcohol is bought and you pay cash. Probably a menu drive cash register and a not so smart cashier. I would complain to HQ and local media. All sorts of info can be on that strip and I wouldn't want it out. Hand them the cash and if they can't complete the sale-go some where else.

27. I know other stores that make it mandatory. If you are 80 years old, they still have to swipe your license.

Their answer to complaints? Don't like it, don't shop here.

I find it absurd.

21. CA drivers licenses have had that black magnetic strip on the back for about a decade.

I think some places, typically liquor stores, scan it to make sure it's a valid DL, and not a fake.

People who make fakes typically don't encode the magnetic strip.

I remember when I purchased a bottle of whiskey earlier this year, my DL was scanned and on the register a "Valid ID" popped on the panel after a few seconds.

This is the inevitable end of the totalitarian system the DUmbasses want so much.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

One must wonder what a data miner (if such exist) could get from a DUmmy SS number. Access to his maxed-out credit card account?

Paranoia is fun.

This is stupid beyond reason....

If the DUmbass is worried about info not on the license being on the mag strip on the back, RUN A DAMNED MAGNET OVER IT AND ERASE IT!!!!!  :thatsright:

For people that are supposed to be so damned smart, why are they so damned stupid?  THAT is the great question of life....   :hammer:

I knew a computer programmer that read the strip on his license, and he discovered that about 5% of the strip had his license info on it.  (And YES, DUmbasses, the strip only has what's on the front of the license on it.)

He filled the rest of the space on the strip with profanity....   :rotf:

You all notice where this goes...yet again...

They want absolutely no accountability for anything they do, so if this was indeed(doubtful) an idea to 'cull the herd' to know who to deny services to later, it troubles them deeply that they'd be punished in a system they helped create.  :rotf:

Hey DUmmies, kiss my taut behind! I don't smoke, I drink modestly, and I workout damn near everyday.  It's not guarantee of everything, but my 'sin load' on my DL is minimal..guess I'll be getting my transplant or bypass :evillaugh: Seriously, though...I have never had my card swiped, but have seen others in front of me who do. The key seems to be buying an item that is age sensitive. Of course, since liberals are usually the first to cry foul that they are being 'targeted unfairly', I'm sure EVERYONE will have to scan at some point, no matter what their transaction, just so scanning is 'fair'.  :whatever:

Although I am not certain, there is probably some sort of verification imprinted on the magnetic strip to insure the license isn't phony - like the CVV numbers on a credit card. I doubt there is any data mining going on.

That's what courtesy cards are for.  You may get a discount for some items in exchange for recording your buying habits. Then you may get sent appropriate coupons to stimulate further purchases in the future, or even get them instantly on your register receipt.

There is no Government oversight of your bad habits yet.

They get scanned for age verification. Stores use the strip as a CYA so they don't get fined for selling to minors. Usually stores get tested minimum 2 times a year, up to once a month depending on the level of enforcement the locals do. Since clerks are considered to stupid to read a license right and do the math their employers have the mandatory license scan to eliminate mistakes before the sale can be completed.
