Hi,
Greetings from Phoenix, land of rain and cold at least the last couple of days.
Last night I read my monthly Limbaugh letter and there was one sentence that really caught my attention. Then I watched the libs throw the congressman who voted against the health care under the bus and a couple things came together for me.
The line from Limbaugh was simply, "the consent of the governed" stating that the liberal democrats do not have that. Indeed the liberals from the days of Jimmy Carter, all the way through to BO have run as moderates but once elected they try to govern from the far left. Even those who run for congress as true moderate democrats are caught in the trap because their elected senate and house leaders will not allow them to be anything other than far left. Now they are throwing their own under the bus who do not follow thier far left agenda.
The point Limbaugh made was that the far left is failing, not because the do not have a bullet proof majority in both houses of congress; but rather they do not have the "consent of the governed". When you think about it, that makes some pretty low hanging fruit for the conservatives like Rubio. If they listen to the public and actually represent them, they are hailed as heros and a breath of fresh air. What galls me is all members of congress should be doing that.
Second thing that really tied it together is this. One of the prime characteristics of a good leader is "followers want to follow". It is very obvious that is not the case with Mr. Obama, Ms. Pelosi or Mr. Reed. Instead they have reverted to Chicago style politics with threats, intimidation, bribes and coercion. A leader who must motivate using negative threats will be effective only until the threat goes away. At that point he/she has lost all their power. Then, to regain power, they almost always have to rachet up the threat even further.
At the same time, the followers who are out from under the threat will naturally react to the situation by avoiding being put in that same position again.
When I saw the house member being tossed on ethics violations because he did not vote for the health care bill I saw some very desparate folks trying to get something done. Make no mistake several democrats have taken note and I suspect there will be a huge pushback as we get closer to election time.
If a person has a gun held to their head they will be motivated. However once the threat is removed, not only are they not motivated, they are mighty pissed off and revenge is a normal reaction.
What I hope we witness is revenge within the democrat party, plus revenge from the voters in the fall. If all goes well the libs should be in a world of hurt.
