BREAKING: Texas SWAT team responds to hostage situation at synagogue
UPDATE: ABC is reporting one suspect has taken the Rabbi and three others hostage at a synagogue in Colleyville, TX. The suspect is claiming to be armed and says his sister is Aafia Siddiqui. Siddiqui was convicted in New York of trying to kill US military personnel and is currently incarcerated.
A Texas SWAT team is on scene, responding to a hostage situation at a synagogue near Dallas. ABC is reporting one suspect has taken the Rabbi and three others hostage at a synagogue in Colleyville, TX. The suspect is claiming to be armed and says his sister is Aafia Siddiqui. Siddiqui was convicted in New York of trying to kill US military personnel and is currently incarcerated.
"I'm going to die at the end of this" is what the Colleyville, Texas synagogue hostage taker said, shortly before the congregation Facebook livestream ended. "What the f*ck is wrong with America?!" shouts the same man, during the stream.
The Colleyville Police Department said, "We are currently conducting SWAT operations around the 6100 block of Pleasant Run Rd. All residents in the immediate area are being evacuated. Please avoid the area." All residents in the immediate area of the incident are being evacuated, according to the tweet. The congregation had a Facebook livestream during the incident, which is now down.
The local police department posted an additional update at 1:20 p.m. Saturday stating that the situation is ongoing and advised individuals to avoid the area. The Congregation Beth Israel's address is 6100 Pleasant Run Rd.
An officer at the scene confirmed that the situation is a hostage situation, but more information had not yet been confirmed by officials, WFAA reported.

Kinda pokes at the lie that the terrorist just had mental issues. Mental issues do not have accomplices.

That the guy had a history of mental issues doesn't change or excuse what he did. I have not seen anyone saying that it does excuse what he did. And Islamists are known to exploit those who are not all there.

It's a CNN "article" so you can take it with a grain of salt.
The interesting thing is, CNN actually states that the FBI hostage rescue team shot and killed Akram AFTER the hostages were rescued.
Granted, I haven't been digging for further information on this story, but I did wonder how the perp died. Whether by his own hand, or suicide by cop, or whatever. The 3-4 articles I read stated only that Akram "was killed" or "died" during the incident.
Is it just me, or have others noticed of late that the cops won't immediately divulge who-did-what in the immediate aftermath of a shooting? Not that I'm advocating for that sort of thing -- we've seen plenty of examples where the media jump to all sorts of conclusions and the real facts come out later.

CNN host Don Lemon doesn’t appear to believe that the hostage situation at a Texas synagogue was terrorism related, suggesting instead that Malik Faisal Akram, who was identified as the hostage-taker, was suffering from “mental illness.”
Lemon’s remarks contradict the FBI’s assessment that Akram, a British national who was killed after he took four people hostage at the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, may have been a terrorist.
During the segment, Lemon discussed the incident with former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and ADL president Jonathan Greenblatt. While paraphrasing a survivor of the incident, Lemon said he b believes the public consensus is that people who promote anti-Semitic tropes are not “necessarily racist. They’re just repeating ignorant things.”
"But," he added, "when some who may be unstable or has some mental issues, it becomes real, and they act. These tropes are incredibly dangerous in that regard."

That the guy had mental health problems is known. But so what. He still selected and targeted a Jewish synagogue rather than a random 7-Eleven or Starbucks or animal shelter. His antisemitism was learned somewhere, and his choice was deliberate.
