Can a knowledgeable Du'er explain undocumented people voting in NY and CA?
It's another one I keep hearing. Is it just local elections in those two states?

14. Because democrats found an unsecured gun on the table and then looked at their foot.

Whether you agree with the policy or not. (And I have to confess I have serious reservations about diluting the purpose of citizenship). The timing is right up there with defending the police during a crime wave.

2. Undocumented people cannot vote and it is only for nyc specific races

Green card or dreamers covered by the dream act can now vote but only for local city races, not state races like assembly or congress.

Still not a great idea now, plays right into their narrative.

3. Some elections don't require citizenship

My HOA board merely requires that you own a home in the community - and it’s one vote per home regardless of how many people live there. New York City recently decided that (for local elections only) you just need to live there.

I believe that it’s still being adjudicated in court whether this decision complied with the state constitution - and an amendment would be required for non citizens to vote in any federal elections.

5. This is a great wedge issue for REPUBLICANS, stupid move.

Put in the same category as de-fund the police!

9. Undoc'd folx can't vote, only lawfully registered resident aliens can, and only in local elections.

While I happen to personally think it's completely reasonable, I also realize it's a massive, unforced pragmatic blunder.
The cost simply far outweighs the benefit right now, especially seeing as how it's virtually unheard of in any Western Democracy...sure, it's a nice fizzy feeling to be a global trailblazer for a good prog/lib cause, but not if it means handing the RW an entire truckload of 2x4s to beat us about the head and neck.

"Knowledgeable Du'er" is a species that doesn't exist, a chimera, :rimshot: .

As I understand it, hypothetically non-citizens are allowed by these cities to vote on local issues. In reality, election ballots typically are a mix of municipal, county, state, and national races (for office) and issues. Limiting non-citizen voters to only some parts of a ballot would not be doable, and giving non-citizen voters special ballots with only local races/issues would be wildly time consuming, i.e. impractical. IOW, what might look OK-ish (not really) and limited is just a Trojan Horse to get illegals and other non-citizens voting on state-wide and national-level races and issues.

The next step, a few election cycles from now, will be shamvestigations that "discover" that 10s or 100s of thousands of non-citizens having been voting on state-wide and national-level races and issues for years and it's so out of control that it's impractical to fix the problem.

I must have missed the huge uprising among non-citizens in NYC to be able to vote. Usually when there’s millions of people in the street clamoring for the right to vote the local media covers it, at least. But I recall nothing.

As opposed to your (below) average, run of the mill moron?
