It's being reported on Fox News and on MSN.com that Neil Armstrong the first Astronaut to walk on the moon has died at the age of 82. No further details are available at this time.

He has taken the next giant leap.
Farewell, sir.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

That must have been amazing, looking up and seeing the earth. RIP space explorer. You had the right stuff.

Tragic loss.

Go in peace as I salute you. :usflag:

That is sad, he is an American icon and a symbol of what people can achieve through hard work and perseverance.

One small loss of one man, one large loss for mankind.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace To
those with wings who fly thro' space,
Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain,
Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear an humble prayer,
For those in peril in the air! Amen.

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Amen.

Armstrong was said to have spent extra hours--many extra hours--in the LEM simulator, training to be able to override the computer that was to guide the LEM to the surface of the Moon.  As it happened, the original landing site for Eagle was littered with boulders, so Armstrong took the controls and was able to guide Eagle to a smooth landing site.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Armstrong.  You had the balls to take that "small step." :taps:

Rest in Peace, Neil. You are a true American hero.

On another note: NBC originally announced that 'Astronaut Neil Young' has died. Is there anything they don't screw up? I am surprised they even know what the space program is; considering how much they hate it.

Neil Young was sort of an explorer.  He was searching for a heart of gold.

RIP, Neil Armstrong.  It will be sad to speak of you in the past tense from now on.

Armstrong was approached by political groups from both ends of the spectrum after his aeronautical career. Unlike former astronauts and United States Senators John Glenn and Harrison Schmitt, Armstrong declined all offers. Personally, he was in favor of states' rights and against the United States acting as the "world's policeman".

RIP to a brave and honorable man.  I am not sure if it is consoling or profoundly sad that Mitt met with Neil just a few weeks ago, and assured him he would restore honor to NASA and do away with the Muslim outreach horseshit.

Present trends continuing, we will soon hear that the last living American who walked on the moon has died.

And, somewhat later, that the last living human to go into space on an American spacecraft has died.
