I didn't find out until the wife got home and asked how the Mexican stand-off down town was going. I had been totally off line all day installing a switch and new printer / scanner. Heard sirens and copters earlier but assumed it was an accident on I95 with med flight.
Good video on CH9 WMUR which I just saw. I am no longer working my downtown gig.
Wife's first comment was "The Bangor Portland New York" connection. Deja Vue all over agin.
Wonder what ever happened to Peace?
For those that have never been up this way, let me describe Portsmouth.
Very small town, 25,000 , extremely old, most of the streets have the front door of the houses about 3 feet from the curb. You cannot walk but 5 feet without running into something historic, very people friendly.
Pet friendly also as most people have a dog at their side as they sit outside in the warm weather eating and drinking at tables outside the restaurants, dog under the table. The down town area is in the square, all one way traffic and the streets going into the square are 2 way, very narrow.
It is extremely unusual to find a store front empty more then 2 weeks. Most businesses are small run with dog treats at the cash out for those that shop with their pets. Some very unusual shops that are New Age to down right big city Funky.
Used book stores everywhere and they do a bang up business. For some reason the people with dogs most likely have a book on hand to read. There are horse drawn carrages parked in the square for 10 hours a day, I have no idea why I have yet to see any horse leavings in the streets, makes me wonder how they pull that off.
MONEY lots of it, a one room combo goes for $1,500 a month with no utilities.
One can sit on the river bank and watch the Subs come in and out of the shipyard across the river in the State of Maine. The Coast Guard has swift boats that keep the river free of idiots, huge LPG tankers come up the river as well as the Tall Ships, what a sight.
Nice place, occasionally a purse snatching or bank robbery, a few murders through the years but except for 3 or 4 the police who know everyone solve the crimes.
This bus incident is like, for this town "Terrorists come to Mayberry"
At this time almost 8 PM I have no idea if the cops got the man off the bus but I do have one question.
I drove a bus, a school bus, and I had 45 lives to look after. Question was why the driver abandoned his passengers. He/she could have told everyone aboard there was a problem with the engine and asked everyone to step off. Then called 911.
This is akin to a pilot being told there was a bomb aboard strapping on a parachute and leaving by the back door.
