Muslim Home Buyers Forbidden by Their Religion to Pay Interest Turn to Christian Charity

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —  Mohamed Nurhussien faced the usual challenges of a low-income worker trying to buy a home, with one big difference: As a Muslim he was forbidden by his religion to pay interest.

The 54-year-old Eritrean immigrant with five children thought his only option was to save enough money to purchase a home outright, with cash earned from his job at a security company.

Then he heard about Habitat for Humanity. For some Muslim immigrants like Nurhussien, the Christian homebuilding charity that offers zero-interest loans has become a real godsend.

"The way Habitat deals fits exactly to our requirements," said Nurhussien, who bought a home earlier this year from the northern Virginia chapter of the group. "It's not free. It is no interest. It's good for me and whoever has the same belief."

Wow.

Wow.

This could be why 3 semi-McMansions not far from my house haven't sold. They're a block from a mosque. I guess they don't want to pay that interest. They've been on the market for over 2 years. I guess being next to a stable doesn't help.  :-)

:-)  Or maybe they just have better taste.  I know those McMansions are supposed to be so beautiful, but every one I look at has all this extra architecture to make them look "added on to."  They will all be so corny in another decade or so.  I'd rather buy the old house that has been added on to, and has the scars to prove it.  Odds are, it'll still be standing when the Mc's are gone.

It's certain that almost any house will be standing after these things. We've walked around those houses when taking the dogs for walks and the construction is really shoddy. The AC units are raised on a metal platform. They look like they're already about to fall down. They have those long plastic tubings extending about 7 feet from the house, to drain off all the excess water. They truly are ugly---and they were asking about $600k for those things. The price has been dropping. They've been taken off the market at least 3 times. I guess they're playing real estate games, hoping people won't figure out how long they've been for sale.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard that Muslims won't sell their property to non-Muslims. There is a nice little house in Denison, Tx that is owned by a Muslim. He doesn't live there and I'm told that he won't sell to anybody but another Muslim. The house is vacant, the yard unkempt, and the empty house is nothing but a detriment to the owner and the neighborhood. I don't see why the Christian Community should reciprocate if this IS true.

That is a point.  I think we'd have to know if it happens this way frequently or not.  Though I did have mixed feelings about a charity extending assistance to someone who presumably does not have financial need...  Most people that donate to Habitat do so to help the poor.

It's true in Muslim countries......and they do tend to bring the stupid with them when they immigrate here.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
