Lunch
« on: June 15, 2008, 11:47:44 AM »
We are growing tomatos this summer. I picked on the size of a double fist. Spread some Laughing Cow creamy swiss on some bread nice thick slices of tomato, salt and pepper and sprinkled on some feta! That was lunch! burp!

If'n you wooda stuck some fried-up Spam in there it wooda been Heaven.

There is nothing like a homegrown tomato.  I envy you, or at least I do until my neighbors (The Patio Farmers) starts unloading them on us by the sackfull in a week or two.

The problem I have with tomatoes is that they overwhelm everything else.  If I put a tomato on a burger, all I taste is tomato.  Same for salads, sandwiches, etc.

Tomato by itself is OK, but your lunch, to me, would taste like... tomato.

Tomatoes and Laughing Cow cheese are two of my favorite ingredients. I never would have thought to combine the two. I think I may be in heaven.

well, that was the idea! fresh homegrown tomato. But, I have to say the feta gives a strong counterbalance!

I posted a recipe once at another site for Cherry Tomato Meatballs. Several posters complained, "It will taste too much like tomatoes!"

Um, that is the basis of its appeal!  :-)

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I practically beg my local patio farmers to bring me green tomatoes, but they all have some aversion to the idea.  They cannot stand to see their work not come to ripe fruition.

My next door neighbor has a good garden going.  Unfortunately, it got too hot too fast this year and he doesn't think his squash is gonna make it, along with some other veggies.  But, the upside, he totally said he's bring over some tomatoes when they start coming in soon.  Woo Hoo!
