During our recent heat wave, I've been watching temps from several cities in Kansas on Weather Underground. I've noticed that some cities have strangely elevated temps during some parts of the day. Specifically, I've noticed that cities like Chanute and Salina are have temps 10 degrees higher than some of the more-southern cities. I haven't made any specific study of this, just find it interesting that a few cities are somehow way hotter during the afternoon than cities within 40 or 50 miles of them...day after day. This difference doesn't seem to appear at other times of the day, either. As far as I can see, WUnderground uses the same info NOAA has, so I certainly can believe that mis-placement of some sensors is at fault...and that mis-placement is being used in figures that lead to the "warming" crisis.
