Russian President Says He's Not Afraid of Cold War
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:44:17 AM »
MOSCOW —  Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday that he is not afraid of afraid of a new Cold War, but does not seek it.

"We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the ITAR-Tass news agency. "But we don't want it and in this situation everything depends on the position of our partners."

The statement comes hours after Medvedev recognized the independence of two Georgian rebel provinces, defying the West. The recognition follows a short but intense war with Western-allied Georgia earlier this month.

"If they want to preserve good relations with Russia in the West, they will understand the reason behind our decision," Medvedev said.

Medvedev's comments come as British Foreign Minister David Milband called for the "widest possible coalition against Russia's aggressiun in Georgia," Reuters reported.

They might nor be afraid but they don't have the cash. They have 1.4 trillion a yearGNP ,we have 14 Trillion right now. Guess who can afford to restart the Regan era spending on the military first?

Surely el Presidente de Russkie doesn't believe that by rattling his saber now, he'll drive all of us into the welcoming, comforting arms of teh Obamessiah and his goals of US pascifism and a world Marxist order, does he?

no.  I think what I meant was that if we somehow lose our collective national minds and elect The BarackStar! in november, that we will
probably have neither the will nor the means (after a few trillion dollars worth of domestic spending), not to mention the leadership, to do
much do much to oppose a resurgent soviet threat besides urging restraint . . . sorta like his epic warning after the russian aggression in georgia.

But the sad fact is that 24 years down the road...the Libtards will block any attempt to do that every chance they get.

Might work this time with a Barack presidency. He'll kill the economy.

I would think that a lot of russians, not necessarily just former communists, look back at the cold war as "the good old days".

I don't. If that were the case, you wouldn't see former Communist state after former Communist state RUNNING towards Capitalism.

some of the countries that were part of the old soviet union have been fortunate enough to elect a true reform governments.  those seem to
be the ones making the most progress towards a free market economy with the least amount of turmoil.

but in my reply, I was speaking primarily of members of the current government of russia that are holdovers from the former soviet regime.
