Come on SVPete, you know the fault lies ONLY with the NRA and the politicians who receive money from the NRA. No one else is to blame.

Ugh...the MSM trotting the kids out is making me sick. The media (with help from the Dems) put these kids in front of the camera because they believe that decent humans (eg those who are members of the NRA) will not DARE to attack them. If we attack their ideas, we are attacking them. It's disgusting, and it pisses me off. And my liberal friends on Twitter are loving it. They are saying that these kids are the future and they will make the changes that are needed. They are like proud parents. In the same breath, they say they don't want anyone younger than 21 to be able to buy a gun. Which is it?

David Hogg, the so-called leader of the students at Parkland is little more than a leftist prop. His dad is ex-FBI.

Keep in mind that they only took him in in November or December. So even if true their statement doesn't mean much wrt Cruz.

Cruz was known to be violent and to threaten violence since middle school. That would be somewhere around 6th Grade! For half of Cruz's school "career" teachers and educrats KNEW what Cruz was (short of being certain he would commit mass-murderer). But the $7K-$10K per year of ADA money he represented was too precious to the educrats!

The thing that has me very POed about this shooting is that there were so damned many points at which it might have been prevented:

* As detailed above, school educrats knew Cruz was violent, but kept him schools' general population (intentional use of prison terminology);

* Police visited his home 39 times in 7 or 8 years, but nothing was ever done - about his violence or, if there was any, about abuse by his adoptive Mother;

* School educrats knew Cruz was violent, but allowed him on the high school JROTC marksmanship team;

* FL DSS/CPS (whatever the FL bureaucrats call themselves) evaluated Cruz 2 years ago and deemed him a "minimal threat";

* In September, 2017 Cruz was reported to the FBI for explicit and very specific threats on social media, but nothing was done;

* In January, 2018 Cruz was reported as a threat to the FBI, in great and accurate detail, but nothing was done; the FBI office in Miami wasn't even notified!

Cruz had hundreds of contacts with authorities, yet not one seemed to realize that he should not be in schools' general population or in a position that would feed and train him in his tendency toward violence. The FBI did nothing, twice! And the person who received the January call probably didn't even do the minimal history checking to realize this was the second time Cruz had been reported!

The mail boxes of the 17 families who lost children to Cruz and of the hospitalized survivors should be overflowing with abject apologies from educrats, DSS/CPS bureaucrats, and law enforcement people who failed their dead and wounded children! And the asshole politicians and activists using their children's bloodied bodies as a podium for their cause should be muzzled and shamed,

It is sickening and wrong at all levels.

It's still raining shoes in Broward County:

Did the Progressive 'Broward County Solution' Cost 17 Student Lives?

Quote
"We're not compromising school safety.  We're really saving the lives of kids," boasted Michaelle Valbrun-Pope, executive director of Student Support Initiatives for Broward County Public Schools, in August 2017.

Valbrun-Pope was referring to what an article by Jeffrey Benzing in Public Source calls the "Broward County Solution."  As Benzing relates, Broward County used to lead the state of Florida in sending students to the state's juvenile justice system.  County leaders responded with a perfectly progressive solution: "lower arrests by not making arrests."

Authorities agreed to treat twelve different misdemeanor offenses as school-related issues, not criminal ones.  The results impressed the people who initiated the program.  Arrests dropped from more than a thousand in 2011-2012 to less than four hundred just four years later.
...
According to a source who spoke to the Miami Herald, Cruz had been suspended from Stoneman Douglas High for fighting and also for being caught with bullets in his backpack.  This was apparently at least one of the reasons why administrators reportedly emailed a warning to teachers against allowing Cruz on the campus with a backpack.  He was later expelled for reasons that have not been disclosed, but he was apparently not arrested.

As I posted on CU, from the high school up through the FBI, was there anything stupid left undone?!

All of which stand as irrefutable evidence that the Powers That Be and their useful idiots in the Gun Grabber camp(s) aren't interested in new gun control laws to control the CRIMINALS; they're after control of the law abiding.

Oh, FFS!

Quote
(CNN)Just months before Nikolas Cruz killed 17 at his former high school in South Florida, the host family who had taken him in immediately after his mother's death warned local law enforcement that the 19-year-old had "used a gun against people before" and "has put the gun to others' heads in the past," according to records obtained by CNN.

It's the latest indication of how law enforcement encountered warning signs about Cruz's violent behavior before he attacked students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.

On the day after Thanksgiving, Cruz was at work at a Dollar Tree store. Rocxanne Deschamps' son, Rock, 22, called 911 to report that an "adopted 19-year-old son" had possibly hidden a "gun in the backyard," according to a dispatcher's notes. Rock Deschamps told law enforcement "there were no weapons allowed in the household," the report said. It's unclear from the record whether sheriff's deputies conducted a search. The incident was classified as "domestic unfounded," which means a deputy didn't find proof to back up the claims.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office was called again to the home four days later, when Rock said Cruz lashed out against the family that took him in, according to the Palm Beach deputy's report and dispatcher notes.  ...

Rock interrupted Cruz and a fight broke out between them, according to the documents. Cruz left the home, and Rocxanne Deschamps called 911. She warned the police dispatcher that Cruz said "he was going to get his gun and come back," records show. She said Cruz had "bought a gun from Dick's last week and is now going to pick it up."
Rocxanne Deschamps told the dispatcher that Cruz had "bought tons of ammo" and "has used a gun against ppl before," the notes said. "He has put the gun to others heads in the past."

They make more and more laws and tougher punishments, then a high number of blacks and hispanics get caught up in the system and it is all put aside because it is racist. The same with the mental health problems, they don't want to stigmatize anyone so they go untreated and people die. then it is the guns fault.  :thatsright:

FBI Tip-Line Caller Said Nikolas Cruz ‘Is Going to Explode’
https://www.wsj.com/articles/fbi-tip-line-caller-said-nikolas-cruz-is-going-to-explode-1519415442

Quote
A person close to the teenager accused of killing 17 people at a Florida high school warned the FBI she was concerned he would “get into a school and just shoot the place up,” according to a transcript of her call with a bureau tip line operator more than a month before the massacre.

The transcript, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, provides chilling detail about the woman’s efforts on Jan. 5 to warn authorities about Nikolas Cruz’s propensity for violence and his troubled past. The caller’s identification was redacted from the transcript, but the tip-line operator called her “ma’am.” (Read the transcript; redactions by FBI.)

“You know, it’s just so much,” she said on the call. “I know he’s—he’s going to explode.” She said she was making the call because she wanted a “clear conscience if he takes off and, and just starts shooting places up.”

The FBI really screwed up. They screwed up with Boston Marathon, USA Gymnastics, Las Vegas, and now this.

Scot Peterson: School deputy goes from commended to vilified after Stoneman Douglas shooting
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/parkland/florida-school-shooting/fl-bz-florida-school-shooting-scot-peterson-20180223-story.html

Quote
Branded a coward by the president. Vilified by his ex-boss. Duty-bound to protect Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Scot R. Peterson, disgraced former Broward sheriff’s deputy, once characterized himself to be a strong, proactive law enforcement officer who would not shrink in the face of danger.

Yet the 33-year law enforcement veteran resigned on Thursday after withering criticism from Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who said the deputy stationed at the Parkland school should have confronted and killed the gunman in the Feb. 14 attack that left 17 dead.

The Broward County Sheriff has dropped the ball too many times with Nikolas Cruz.

FL Shooting Survivor: Sheriff 'Virtue-Signaling Against the NRA', Must Resign After Officers' Inaction
http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/02/25/parkland-shooting-survivor-slams-sheriff-nra-criticism-officer-inaction

A survivor of the Florida school shooting spoke out against the Broward County sheriff as well as those who are injecting gun control politics into the tragedy.

Kyle Kashuv said Gov. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and others have done "definitely enough" to bring attention to school safety issues.

He said the mental health issue is a "bipartisan" topic, and that people should be coming together rather than retreating to political corners.

Sheriff Scott Israel and all the sheriffs who screwed up should be removed and charged.

CCW Weekend: Human Error More To Blame Than Guns In Mass Shootings

Guns and Gear

Contributor

10:19 AM 02/24/2018

By Sam Hoober, Alien Gear Holsters

In the wake of another school shooting, there’s a new round of calls for gun reform, gun control, whatever one wants to call it. Once again, the fallacy that more gun laws will prevent atrocities from happening is being passed around social media, news networks and around water coolers across the country.

Curtailing our Second Amendment rights just isn’t going to be the answer. Mere access to guns alone doesn’t make such tragedies possible; after all, the worst school massacre in American history – the Bath School Disaster of 1927 – was carried out without a single shot being fired.

What seems to get lost in the shuffle is the role of human error in mass shootings, which is far larger than some people want to admit.

In the broad strokes, we know the gunman in Florida had mental health issues, and had been dealing with some very rough circumstances in his life. We know that he harbored or appeared to harbor extremist viewpoints. We know the family that took him in had no idea about any of it until it was all over.

We know that he was fascinated with school shootings and had been making comments online about wanting to carry one out. We also know the Federal Bureau of Investigation knew about it and did nothing.

Interesting, and refreshing, take.  You'll never see it in any 'mainstream' media.

The AR-15, a Tool For Good. Nine Powerful Real Life Examples to Counter the Left’s Empty Rhetoric

Scott Morefield Posted: Feb 26, 2018 12:01 AM

When it comes to public relations, the much-maligned AR-15 has had a rough go of late. Blamed for everything from the bubonic plague to school shootings it was actually used in (because as we all know, it’s never the perpetrator), it would be easy to be duped into thinking the world would be a veritable paradise if only this particular scary looking “assault-weapon” were somehow legislated out of existence.

Granted, the lofty rhetoric employed by liberal politicians, gun control groups, and well-coached, albeit sympathetic Parkland students is sometimes difficult to defend. Despite the multiple failures at multiple agencies that could have prevented or at least mitigated his crime, the fact that killer Nikolas Cruz did indeed employ the weapon to murder 17 students in a place they should have felt safe is incontrovertible.

Which creates an ideal opportunity for the Left to employ the best tool at their disposal - rhetoric. And yes, especially when it’s skillfully employed by kids who might otherwise be engaged in playing video games and eating Tide pods, rhetoric can definitely be a powerful thing.

Which makes countering it even more important, but how? Sure, we could try - you know - facts, and they ARE on our side here. For example, even though it has admittedly been used in several high-profile school shootings of late, the AR-15’s involvement in overall crime in the United States is much less than the fear-mongers would have us think. Even NBC admits that “despite its use in many mass shootings, the popular AR-15 rifle accounts for relatively few murders,” - or, to be specific, significantly less than the 3 percent of overall firearm homicides rifles of all types accounted for in 2016. This, despite the over 15 million AR-style rifles in America today.

There’s more, of course, most of which has been covered exhaustively here on Townhall. But facts bolstered by statistics aren’t necessarily the best way to counter rhetoric. No, the best way for that is to use equal or more powerful rhetoric, and the good news is our side has plenty of that too.

The rest of this column is here:  https://townhall.com/columnists/scottmorefield/2018/02/26/the-ar15-a-tool-for-good-nine-powerful-real-life-examples-to-counter-the-lefts-empty-rhetoric-n2454199

And the F#$%-Ups just keep on coming! https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/02/25/ems-first-responder-shares-harrowing-account-of-how-botched-florida-shooting-response-was

“We were asking to go in. Asking the scene commander to go in. Why are we all standing around? Why are we not having patients to treat? Why are we not going into the building and retrieving these kids? The response every time was law enforcement did not clear the scene and would not allow medical personnel to go in,” he added.

The EMS worker believes that if he and other medical responders were allowed to enter the building as soon as they arrived, they could have saved more lives. He explained he was willing to risk his life to save the lives of others and was very frustrated over the situation.

The EMS worker stressed that he believes law enforcement made the decision they thought was best at the time, but emphasized that he believes it was the wrong one.

“They should have been more aggressive about getting the victims out,” he said.

This is a conflict of training (or maybe lack of Sheriff Deputy training). Sending in the EMS people with a couple of officers providing covering fire (as needed) might have saved the lives of students who bled to death. Or maybe not. But the Sheriff Deputies didn't give them the chance to take the risk the EMS people were willing to take to have a chance to save lives.

It has been a little more than a week since the horrific shooting in Parkland, FL and as more becomes known about what lead up to that shooting, it is proving itself to be a tragically perfect example of government’s total failure, in fact its inability to keep people safe. Getting beyond the mistakes that were made by multiple agencies on many levels, getting beyond the cowardice of one or more responding cops, we need to look at another aspect of this horrible incident. Since so many people from students to school administrators, to the Sheriff of Broward County, all the way up to lawmakers on the federal level are screaming for more gun control, let’s take a close look at the effect that existing gun policies played in this incident.

Since Sheriff Scott Israel has seen fit to very publicly scream for gun control himself, and done so in the most unprofessional manner I can imagine, ripping into people who disagree with his point of view like an emotional teenager, all on national television, so I’ll start with him.  Broward County Sheriff’s Office is a very large Sheriff’s department with, according to their website, more than 5,800 employees (includes sworn and non-sworn).  Their annual budget is $730M.  That is a very big local department by almost any standard.

Would it surprise you to find out that the Broward County Sheriff’s Office does not issue rifles to their patrol cops?  It sure as hell surprised me!  What year is this?  In this day and age, it is practically criminal to not supply your street cops with a rifle.  (Broward deputies can buy their own rifle if they desire, but the department does not issue them.)

I thought the North Hollywood Bank Robbery in 1997 taught us all that cops needed long guns?  I would think that all of the recent mass shooting incidents that our news media sees fit to talk about 24/7 for weeks on end would have taught us all that.  I would think that all of the changes in training and tactics for law enforcement over the last 20+ years would have taught us all that.  But apparently none of that got through to Scott Israel, since he refuses to issue rifles to his street cops.

Now, before anyone jumps up and claims I have no idea what is involved in providing rifles to an entire department, let me assure you I do.  I happen to work for a large agency, although not as large as Broward County, and I have worked in an administrative position on my department where my job was providing equipment for all of our patrol deputies.  I understand perfectly the difficulties in providing equipment for a large agency.  And yes, it is a much different beast than providing tools for a smaller agency.  Buying 10 of something is much different than buying 500, or 1,000 of the same thing.  I understand perfectly that there is a significant cost in trying to put a rifle in every patrol officer’s hands, but not in this case.  The Broward County Sheriff could get all the rifles they want from the Federal 1033 program 100% free.  Zero, nada, nothing.   Instead the man in charge, the man with whom the buck stops, Sheriff Scott Israel chose not to put rifles in the hands of his deputies, but why?

That's a very good question--one which is answered in the next paragraph.  But, you have to go to the link to read it.

IOW, the DU-folk who defended the deputy who did not go into the school building because a handgun vs. a rifle would be suicidal - a gross and stupid over-simplification - were (unknowingly) citing a situation created by Sheriff Israel and (probably) the local school district.

How did the deputy know what kind of gun he was "going against" if he never went into the building.....

That's the thing. DU-folks' hypothetical going in blind scenario assumes several things that are not realistic: that the deputy knows what kind of gun Cruz had (he may have, hearing the sound of the shots); that the deputy would stupidly run in without surveying what he could see; would be be instantly visible; in an open space; fully exposed. They don't know what reality was - open doors and rooms, turns in the hallway, lockers, stuff and people on the ground. They just assume and talk ignorantly, with no one caring to call out their ignorance.

Most of these shooters are cowards, that's why they pick gun free zones and schools. If he went in and just popped off a couple of rounds the guy may have given up.

Media companies sue for security videos from exterior of Stoneman Douglas building

Quote
The South Florida Sun Sentinel, The Miami Herald and CNN filed the civil lawsuit in Broward Circuit Court, citing Florida’s public records law. The lawsuit names the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the School Board of Broward County, as well as Sheriff Scott Israel and Superintendent Robert Runcie, in their official roles, as defendants.

The lawsuit seeks access to video from cameras outside the Parkland school on the day of the shooting and cites the “extreme public interest” in figuring out precisely what happened.
...
The sheriff’s office and school district have declined to release the video to the public, saying the footage could reveal a security system plan; that the video is part of an ongoing criminal investigation related to Cruz; and that it is part of an internal affairs investigation of Peterson.

Gun Sales Surge After Florida School Shooting

by Tyler Durden

Tue, 02/27/2018 - 14:23

A North Florida gun store owner says firearms sales surged more than 33% compared to February last year, indicating Floridians are concerned the erosion of the Second Amendment is imminent in the wake of the Parkland shooting.

"The last couple of weeks have been very busy," John Garner, gun store owner told WYFF News 4. "Guns are political. It doesn’t take much to spark an interest."

Garner has been selling guns for nearly 20-years. He told the WYFF investigative team that firearms sales have spiked in the past couple of weeks, after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Garner even stated his sales are up 33% when compared to last February.

Garner further said the AR-15, 5.56×45mm, magazine-fed, gas-operated semi-automatic rifle, is the hottest item in the shop, selling more than 17 in two weeks.

As we noted, this past weekend’s gun show at the Florida State Fairgrounds, saw a record number of gun enthusiasts who were eager to get their hands on an AR-15 before the government bans assault-style rifles.

Personally, I'd like to get a Garand. :whistling:
