No opt-out of filtered Internet (Australia)

No opt-out of filtered Internet

Australians will be unable to opt-out of the government's pending Internet content filtering scheme, and will instead be placed on a watered-down blacklist, experts say.

Under the government's $125.8 million Plan for Cyber-Safety, users can switch between two blacklists which block content inappropriate for children, and a separate list which blocks illegal material.

The government will iron-out policy and implementation of the Internet content filtering software following an upcoming trial of the technology, according to the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Nice. Thank you Mr Rudd. You feculant blotch on the latrine floor.

I don't see how they're going to get this working without stealing parts of private companies as there is no way in hell most of us will install the required software on out machines meaning it has to be done at a much higher level.

It's also going to kill his (already minuscule) chances of re-election. Wager is that most of his supporters are the most likely to be impeded by this type of action.

That, however is beside the point.

Note how the terms say "illegal" content, so that when they decide something is verboten it's just a matter of getting their lackeys to enter a few lines into a database. It's a slippery slope, and we are grasping at the edge like a drowning man at a tuft of grass.

They can borrow their routers from China.

Here's another one...

Microsoft Awarded US Patent for "Automatic Censorship of Audio Data for Broadcast"
Microsoft has been awarded a patent for automatically censoring speech and other audio, by removing or obscuring "undesired words or phrases".

Quote
An input audio data stream comprising speech is processed by an automatic censoring filter in either a real-time mode, or a batch mode, producing censored speech that has been altered so that undesired words or phrases are either unintelligible or inaudible.

The automatic censoring filter employs a lattice comprising either phonemes and/or words derived from phonemes for comparison against corresponding phonemes or words included in undesired speech data. If the probability that a phoneme or word in the input audio data stream matches a corresponding phoneme or word in the undesired speech data is greater than a probability threshold, the input audio data stream is altered so that the undesired word or a phrase comprising a plurality of such words is unintelligible or inaudible. The censored speech can either be stored or made available to an audience in real-time.
