Why is Bernie so popular?

He seems to be much more popular with Democrats in general than Democrats here on DU? Why is that?

Why do so many young people support him?

It's easy to simply ignore these questions but it might be useful to look a little more closely?

If Bernie is elected President, that does not mean that America becomes a full-fledged "Socialist" country tomorrow. There are guardrails called the US Congress. Until they are convinced of the benefits of Bernie's "socialist" ideas, we will remain mostly where we are today, in my opinion.

When we find ourselves in the minority, we might want to look a little closer at ourselves?

Just my opinion.

Government schools, common core curriculum and lefty teachers.

They stopped teaching about why commies are bad (Stalin, Mao, Pot, Castro, Che and so on).

Why is sadistic mass murder Ernesto Guevara a pop culture icon among Progs?
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? 29. I have a hunch that his supporters tend to be low information

They are taken in be his vision but they don’t understand how governments works. Yhey don’t get that 90% of his promises and ideas could never be implemented. There is this little thing called Congress that has to actually enact laws. Many of his ideas like free college would never pass. They seem to beli3ve his promises without understanding that they are pipe dreams. They are unsophisticated and so easily duped

They must be awfully damn stupid if they've got the primitives calling them stupid.

He and his ilk make sentimental statements that are superficially easy to agree with, like "everyone should have healthcare", or "education should be affordable", or "society should be fairer".

As for an answer to the title question,
His supporters are short- sighted and incapable of critical thinking. They hear he's going to punish those evil rich people and shower them with free stuff, and that's all they need to swear allegiance to him.
They have no knowledge of history, and thus have no clue how much of a failure Socialism has been everywhere it was implemented, and thus have no clue how devastating it would be in the long run if it were implemented here.
