I remember those days....Big Daddy....Shirley....those were good days.

In 1958 I was a 12 year old on a Boy Scout jamboree weekend at an abandoned WW2 training airbase in Chester, S.C.. Art Arfons was testing a twin engine dragster (2 V-12 Allisons) on the old runway....or at least that's the way I remember it and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!

They are still racing the front engine top fuel cars on the Nostalgia circuit which to me are more interesting to watch than the big buck cars in the NHRA series.

Brings back memories of my youth when my dad used to take me to Irwindale Raceway to watch these cars on Saturday nights.

Way back in the day I worked for Burns Security, we were handling some of the crowd control for the US Nationals.

I was assigned to the entrance of the press tower, it's located sorta catty corner to the cars lining up to make a pass.

Anyway, my boss told me no one goes up without a pass. That day Joe Amato advanced and was on his way to do interviews but I had my orders.

He asked me "Do you know who I am?" I said yeah, you're Joe Amato, no pass = no pass.

Obviously, my boss got pounded and we were both relieved of duty.

I got re-assigned, she didn't.
