Just want to vent about Mother's Day

My 82 year old mother lives with me & tomorrow we're taking a ride about an hour north, to a town she likes, where the ice cream is cheap and the market sells great soup bones. Now that I'm not venting about, I recommended the drive.

What I'm venting about, (and it started today) people wishing any female they meet a Happy Mother's Day. Now I have no children, but I'm a hell of aunt to my 8 nieces & nephews. But there is assumption by people that if you're female, then you must be a mother.

In the past I have been out & about on Mother's Day, and swear to God, I was tired of hearing the wishes of people, assuming I was a mother. I hate it. I used to find it hurtful, as I knew I would never have children (lots of reproductive issues).

I have always wished women Happy Mother's Day, because women do exactly what you just said ("I'm a hell of an aunt to my 8 nieces and nephews") quite a bit of the time. That's why I do it.

Your nieces and nephews are so very lucky to have you in their life. My aunt, in many ways, was more of a role model for me than my own mother.

But maybe you should just take in stride. Those people aren't trying to demean you, they are trying to say something nice to you. They may be wrong about you having children, but there's nothing wrong about their attempt to recognize you as a woman. If we celebrated International Women's Day (March 8) in the US, then they would say nice things to you then. But we don't. We have Mother's Day instead.

It's not the end of the world when people get you wrong while trying to be nice.

4. I knew someone once

She and hubby had adopted a baby. After several weeks, the baby was taken back by its mother. They were devastated, and never tried for another adoption. Mothers Day hurt her to the core, every year. It was very sad.

1 - Bitter Bitch Day....For women to fuss as much as they want.

2 - Abortion Day........For women to remember kids that never were.

3 - Slut Day..............For women to count up and discuss past sex partners.

4 - Baby Daddy Day....For women to get free DNA test done.

Two things to translate from DUmmy lies to normal English.
 
1) My 82 year old mother lives with me. This is a lie. The DUmmy never moved out. She stayed and leeched off her mother for years.

2) there is assumption by people that if you're female, then you must be a mother.
I can understand DUmmy confusion with that one, they KILL their babies. That other normal humans might cherish their children is an alien concept to a DUmmy.

This is the same bunch of doorknobs who roar with outrage over Columbus Day, bring out the pitchforks and torches at the sound of "Happy Thanksgiving", and threaten lawsuits over "Merry Christmas".

At my church, roses are given to all the mothers at the end of the service on Mother's day.  Last year, the priest handed me a rose, and I think I must have given him a confused look, but he said they were celebrating future mother's too  :-*

There really is no experience which is normal and natural which they won't leap up to defame and despise. Motherhood has been the basis of the survival of our species, while we can all find faults in our mothers most of us can also see the immense good and self-sacrifice which these women gave to make us into the people we are today...and recognise that some small annual celebration of this is but a small recompense on the debt which we owe to our mothers.


P.S. ^5 to Coach for being the only other person I've seen to put the apostrophe in the right place.

We already have Baby Daddy Day.  It's called Maury and I think he's still on Monday-Friday.

I don't even know what this idiot is talking about. I don't go around wishing every "female" I meet a happy Mother's Day, nor does anyone else I know. Who the hell just assumes a woman is a mother? Talk about a straw woman.

And of course "female" includes children as well. That might be fine by DUmmies, though.
