Super Bowl -- Declaration of Independence

There is absolutely no reason for it to be part of the SB.

a "compulsive self-gorging on ritual images. This grotesque fantasy structure was paraded in the 1988 presidential election by the Republican flap over whether citizens should be legally obliged to say the Pledge of Allegiance. It was further extended from mass public struggle into the Supreme Court by constitutional battles over whether the flag should be exposed to mortality's contagion in the form of its own ashes or dirt, and it has recast national patriotism as a question not of political identity but of proper public expression, loyal self-censorship, and personal discipline." --Lauren Berlant and Elizabeth Freeman, "Queer Nationality"

Personally I was disappointed they left out the "airing of grievances"-- possibly because the King's acts at the time so resemble Washington's acts today--

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. (SB 1070 etc.)

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance. (EPA, BATFE, OSHA  and other bureaucrats)

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation...

Why were any of these self-declared "smartest people on the planet" wasting their valuable time watching football anyway?  I guess there were no Fox reporters having the crap beaten out of them on the Al Jihadi network for them to cheer about??

I thought it was terrific! Both of us teared up a bit over it.

It did cross my mind, wondering what the oh so lovely members of DU would say about it. So nice to know that they didn't disappoint....they said pretty much what I expected based on the above snippets.

It makes me sick to know that they have so little appreciation for those who DID and DO the hard work to make and keep this country free.

Any threads yet over them honoring the only living Medal of Honor recipient from the Gulf War?

I saw SSG Giunta (sp?) and the ovation he got.  Whatever ovation he got, it damned sure wasn't enough.  It got me off my recliner and up at attention.

And, he got it in Afghanistan . . . not Gulf War I . . . but that's a minor thing.  He got it, and he's alive to tell about it.

IIRC, Harry S Truman said that, given the choice between being awarded the Medal of Honor and being elected President, he'd rather have earned the Medal.  What does that tell you?

IIRC, Harry S Truman said that, given the choice between being awarded the Medal of Honor and being elected President, he'd rather have earned the Medal.  What does that tell you?

Given the decisions Truman had to make, he deserves the Medal or somethin' close, anyway!

How'd you like to sentence better than a 100,000 people to death and sufferin'? Sure it saved us ¼ to ½ a million, maybe more GI's, but it still had to weigh heavy on his heart! He was a "Dove" after all, or he woulda turned MacArthur lose and we wouldn't have been battlin' the Soviets then, or the Chinese now, for world dominance! We really could have been like the Romans and controlled ours and the worlds destiny!

There was a time when we could have snuffed 'em all and had no competition! To tell ya the truth, I have agreed with Patton since I was old enough to understand who he was. There would have been no "Iron Curtain", no "Red Chinese", no Vietnam war. Think about it! Who better than to control the world than those who believe in FREEDOM?

If that ain't worth a Medal of Honor, I don't know what is! He let the world evolve by itself, instead of one power dictating to the rest of the world's people our own philosophy! No single person in history has had that kind of power and didn't take the opportunity to use it!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!
