Adam Schiff Avoids Being Censured in Republican-Controlled House, For Now

On Wednesday afternoon, the Republican-controlled House voted to table the measure brought forth by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) as a privileged resolution to censure and fine Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for pushing the "Russia collusion" narrative with regards to the 2016 presidential election.

Such a move, brought forth by Democrats, effectively kills the resolution. Twenty Republicans joined the Democrats who voted to table the measure, in a vote of 225-196, with seven voting "present." The resolution called for a House Ethics Committee investigation.

There had been a sense of dramatic chatter on Wednesday leading up to the vote, as Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) indicated over Twitter he would vote to table the motion, thus not censuring Schiff. Although he agreed that Schiff "acted unethically," he expressed that the "$16 million fine is in violation of the 27th and 8th amendments."

Although Massie was joined by many other Republican colleagues, he was particularly vocal about his opposition to the censure, and the pressure was steep, leading  "Massie" to trend on Twitter, in addition to "Schiff." Massie's own tweets only ever showed he was firm against the resolution. Following the vote, "20 Republicans" was also trending.

While Schiff has yet to tweet about the vote outcome, he did tweet out video messages and clips of media appearances on Tuesday, in addition to fundraising appeals. On Wednesday leading up to the vote, his campaign account tweeted a clip of him on CNN and also retweeted a video message from Rep. George Santos (R-NY), who was in favor of censuring Schiff, to mock it.

In January, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) fulfilled his promises by removing Schiff from the the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, along with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA). McCarthy has cited Schiff lying to the American people about the "Russian collusion" hoax as well as the Ukrainian whistleblower.

Luna tweeted shortly after the vote that she will be filling a privileged motion to censure Schiff, as well as refer him to the Ethics Committee.

Apparently, the $16 million fine that was to be levied against Schiff-for-brains was considered by some to be unconstitutional (Massie, for one). And, let there be no mistake -- there are plenty of squish Republicans in both the House and Senate who can't be seen as fighters.

NYC Grand Jury Indicts Daniel Penny Over Jordan Neely's Death

Given how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg decided to maintain law and order in his jurisdiction, it’s unsurprising that this incident got this far in the legal process when it shouldn’t have. Daniel Penny is the former Marine who placed Jordan Neely in a chokehold. Neely has been described as some gentle giant, a Michael Jackson impersonator Penny murdered. The fact is that Neely was mentally ill and was threatening and violent toward other passengers on a New York City subway on May 1.

Penny placed him in a chokehold, which led to his death. Penny and others’ lives were threatened, as Penny explained in an interview released by his lawyers, as the grand jury decision drew closer. Race and white nationalism have been tossed around about this case by liberal academics. There is no evidence that Penny is a racist. While saddened about Neely's death, Penny denied any ties to white supremacy and is adamant that what he did was justifiable homicide by self-defense.

Now, Mr. Penny has been formally charged (via NBC News):

New York City grand jurors on Wednesday indicted Daniel Penny in the death of fellow subway rider Jordan Neely, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The death last month has been a lightning rod on issues of mental health, crime and race.

The 24-year-old Marine veteran was indicted on a second-degree manslaughter charge in the May 1 confrontation with the homeless man, the sources said. A representative for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg declined to comment on the matter to NBC News.

A spokesperson for Penny declined to comment to NBC News on Wednesday.

Penny and Neely were on an F train in Manhattan when Neely began engaging in "somewhat aggressive speech," witness Juan Alberto has told NBC New York.

Bragg has charged other law-abiding citizens as well for lawful acts of self-defense. One of the worst cases is a bodega owner who killed an armed robber. Bragg’s office initially charged the man with second-degree murder before dropping the charges. In another incident, a parking valet shot an armed car thief who pulled the gun on the attendant who noticed him. After a struggle, the valet wrestled the weapon away from the thief, but not after the gun discharged, wounding the parking attendant, who later gained possession of the firearm and fired on the thief, striking him twice. The valet was later charged with attempted murder, but the charges were dropped again.

This should be no surprise to anyone. For those who like Twitter, there is yet another tweet of two incidents involving blacks who one, beat up and robbed 60-year-old victims and attempted rape.

We shouldn't be surprised to see Bragg fail to prosecute those criminals.

Judge rules that Seattle must not enforce law against graffiti

A federal judge has created a preliminary injunction which prevents the city of Seattle from enforcing the law against graffiti and misdemeanor property destruction. The SPD released a statement today.

Late yesterday afternoon, SPD received an order from a US District Court judge that enjoined, in full, enforcement of SMC 12A.080.020 – the City’s misdemeanor property destruction law.  This means that until further order of the Court, SPD cannot take action on damage to property under this law.  This is not a matter within SPD or City discretion; we are bound by the court order as it is written.

We understand and share the concerns that are being relayed to us by our community, businesses and residents alike.  We know, as evidenced by the thousands of calls for service we receive each year reporting acts of vandalism and other forms of property damage that property damage is, in fact, a crime that is of significance to community members.  SPD is working closely with the Mayor’s Office and City Attorney’s Office to assess next steps with the Court.

A longtime and award-winning Penn State professor allegedly performed sexual acts with his dog in sickening displays that were captured on a state forest trail camera.

Themis Matsoukas, 64, was charged Tuesday after he was allegedly caught earlier this year naked from the waist down — except for socks and shoes — committing the perverted sex acts with his collie near bathrooms at Rothrock State Forest in Pennsylvania, according to reports.

Matsoukas, who is on leave from the university, was identified through a North Face backpack he was carrying from an incident in April and also May, according to a criminal complaint cited by the Centre Daily Times.

He allegedly tried to record himself performing the lewd acts with an electronic tablet, according to the trail cam footage, Fox 43 reported.

Heads up, Louisiana: The NAACP is coming with a travel advisory for your state

Now they are coming for Louisiana. The NAACP is considering issuing a travel advisory to its members if they plan on going to Louisiana. The reason is the same as the one the organization used against Florida – state legislation that they deem to target and marginalize specific groups, such as African-Americans, members of the alphabet brigade, and those who exercise their right to free speech.

It’s the Louisiana chapter of the NAACP that is doing this. They want it to be clear that they are not advising against traveling to the state but that they want to “inform” travelers about what they may face. Yeah, ok, NAACP. We see you. They can’t be as brazen as the board of directors of the NAACP that did its stupid travel advisory on Florida – when the chair of the organization has a home in Florida – because Louisiana, like Florida, depends on the tourism industry. Imagine the backlash by regular Louisianans if the chapter went balls to the wall and demanded a true travel advisory. All of the small businesses and the large ones, too, that depend on tourism would be outraged. It’s not just New Orleans that would be affected. The tourism industry works throughout the state. The state has grown opportunities for the film industry, too.
