Title: Affirmed Was The Last Horse To Win The Triple Crown 37 Years Ago, Until...
Post by: obumazombie on June 07, 2015, 08:34:03 PM
Saturday the 6th of June 2015(also the anniversary of D-day in 1944).
That was the day American Pharoah took his place in horse racing history...

Quote

(NBCSPORTS)

— American Pharoah becomes the 12th horse to win the Triple Crown, beginning with Sir Barton in 1919 and most recently Affirmed in 1978.
After Affirmed’s Triple Crown win, 12 horses won the first two legs of the Triple, only to lose the bid at the Belmont, either because of an upset or because they did not start or complete the race.

Espinoza rode American Pharoah during this year’s Triple Crown races.
It was the second straight year that Espinoza went to Belmont with a chance at the mark; he was the jockey of California Chrome a year ago.
Espinoza also rode War Emblem to the first two legs of the Triple Crown in 2002 before finishing eighth at Belmont.

For American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert, Saturday marked his fourth shot at the Triple Crown.
He also trained Silver Charm (1997),
Real Quiet (1998) and
War Emblem, teaming with Espinoza for that attempt.

He ran it in the second-fastest time ever.  He also had the third-largest winning margin ever (for a Triple Crown winner).

Excellent observation.

As an aside, some people have commented that American Pharoah's name is spelled wrong.
It's not.
He was unintentionally misspelled when he was named, but they kept the spelling.
So his misspelt name is actually the correct spelling.

I think the same thing happens with lots of black kids.  :whistling:

The Muslim from DOO-bye spent hundreds of millions to finally get a winner.

The WJ Journal did a side by side race with Secretariat vs American P. Secretariat time was 2 seconds faster; it was no contest after the 1/4 mile mark. A.P. would have lost by 20 lengths.

It's plainly obvious that ol' Big Red was the greatest horse ever.

I had similar thoughts also, but I noticed when Zayat made a speech after winning the Triple he thanked God instead of allah so I nadined Ahmed Zayat on wikipedia. According to wikipedia the family is actually Jewish.
