Officers May Be Punished for Ft. Hood Rampage

As many as eight Army officers may be punished for failing to heed warning signs and take action against suspected Fort Hood gunman Maj. Nidal Hasan, a U.S. official said Thursday.

First reported in the Los Angeles Times, an official familiar with a Pentagon review of the case, which will be discussed at a briefing Friday, said the officers who face discipline hold ranks of colonel and below.

The review reportedly found that superiors allowed Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, to advance within the ranks despite his failings to meet physical and professional standards. Hasan avoided physical training, was overweight and frequently late, but was seen by superiors as a rare medical officer and thus avoided corrective action.

"Had those failings been properly adjudicated, he wouldn't have progressed," the official told the Times.

If they report .... with the current rules/laws against discrimination....they will be the ones in trouble....because technically they would be doing racial discrimination.

When the Congress created the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and all the subsequent civil rights legislation....they had no idea that someday we would have jihadist Muslims trying to kill us on a regular basis.

Until there is some sort of protection.... put down on paper.....there aren't going to be a whole lot of military people willing to risk their careers reporting someone who may be a wacko Muslim.

Ain't going to happen...not in the military or anywhere else.

Laws are either going to have to be amended OR there is going to have to be something on paper that will stand up in a court of law protecting the individual who tries to warn against a possible terrorist.

The Army expanded and refined active shooter training for the Army law enforcement
community since the tragedy at Fort Hood. OPMG developed and implemented its plan
to train MP personnel to the same level as DACPs through an annual law enforcement
certification program reported through the Unit Status Report.

IMCOM establish a Battle Command Training Program for installation commanders and
staffs similar to the one for Brigade Combat Teams, Divisions, Corps and ASCCs. The training
would be conducted to create experiences enabling the Army’s senior commanders to
develop current and relevant installation command protection instincts and skills.

So- instead of training soldiers to protect themselves from the enemy threat, we will develop a course to train commanders how to create experiences ...  to develop current and relevant.... protection instincts...

It stated that the intelligence review requested by President Obama immediately after the shooting last year “is not reasonably available.”

Robert S. Litt, general counsel for Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper, cited “highly classified, compartmented and sensitive information originating with a number of different executive branch agencies” as justification for withholding the document on the shooting, which left 13 dead and more than 30 injured.

In what could be a slight to the defense, the letter stated that a review of the material would be complicated, and the DNI letter strongly hinted it would never be produced for Hasan’s defense.

“The document you requested is an interagency joint response," the letter said. "Accordingly, we cannot produce the document [if ever] until after a detailed and time-consuming interagency coordination and consultation regarding the report and the underlying highly sensitive information it contains."

I think that's what the defense is going for.  There was a comment on the FNC website article about this from the defence that said something about the responsibility of his superiors at WRAC.
