Looking for sober comments . . . . will the former guy be charged in any way for Jan 6 events?

As has been said, the insurrection investigation is likely to be the most complicated case in DOJ history.

1. I hope I'm wrong

I don't have faith that he'll be charged for the insurrection that he incited. I'm much more confident that he'll be facing lawsuits from some of those he incited

3. No, if Georgia capitol is stormed should our leaders be charged?

If we say the new laws are racist, that we should March on the state senate to protest a scheduled vote on the New laws, and violence erupts, should the leaders of the March be indicted? Indicting Trump would lead to indictments of protest leaders everywhere. We need to define free speech very broadly.

4. Did you read the same OP I did? Trump fomented seditious rebellion, not "protest"

There’s a real huge difference.

9. Damaging the state capitol in Georgia is illegal. So there is not a difference which precludes prote

Who protests more, republican or dems? Protests often involve cations which might be viewed as illegal, like looting or arson. If we charge organizers or promoters of protests as liable for such ancillary crimes it will hurt democrats a lot more than Republicans. And more importantly it will discourage political protest. To protect political dissent I want free speech to be interpreted extremely broadly. That is why I oppose indicating Trump for his horrible incitement of the Jan 6 sedition. I pretty much oppose almost all sedition laws. They do more to suppress legitimate dissent than prevent very rare real sedition. In fact they pretty much only suppress legit political dissent.

5. He should be, but the US judicial system seems to have no appetite for that...

...kind of action against former US Presidents. Trump tried to get us into a civil war, and his erstwhile followers STILL are.

Parlous times, Stinky, parlous times.

7. I think a problem is that the issue is being narrowly defined.

The coup attempt involved so much more than the events at the Capitol building. So much so that former defense secretaries made an anti-coup statement prior to those events. The conspiracy was much broader and far-reaching.

16. It has been 101 days since the event.

I think there may be a time limit on DOJ's effort to charge him?

The division simply would not be worth the effort.

But, in my opinion, they should charge a few around him. They could start with Rudy and Don Jr. and work their way up.

Whatever decision they make, the question will remain, "Just how important is justice?"

Any prosecutor with half a brain would look at the evidence and know such a case was unwinnable. Which is why the likes of Pelosi, Schifftyroo, Mad Maxine, etc. - and DUpipo - howl for it.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.
