Quote
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For the first time, more than 34 million Americans received food stamps in May, the government said on Thursday, another symptom of the longest and one of the deepest recessions since the Great Depression.

Enrollment surged by 2 percent to reach a record 34.4 million people, or one in nine Americans, in the latest month for which figures are available.

It was the sixth month in a row that enrollment set a record. Every state recorded a gain, and Florida had the largest increase at 4.2 percent. ...

What happened to the Americans starving in the streets?  Did they finally learn the address of the food stamp office?

More people will be going on food stamps as their unemployment runs out.  Many that had good jobs, don't qualify for food stamps while getting their unemployment.

That's very true, sir.

The excresence will hit the fan circa sometime in September, after benefits for the first wave of those unemployed under the 0bamareich run out.

I have no problem with food stamps for the elderly who have lost all.

My problem is with food stamps for family's that churn out kids every 18 months.

Wick is great for everyone rich or poor, young or old.

Problem is, as a society what do we do with an unwed mother pregnant with her 8 TH child.?

What happend to a woman with 3 kids and that is the cut off of max allowed food stamps for that family ?

The woman refuses abortion, and knows she will have to give that child up for adoption---will she continue to have more children with no benefit.?    I don't think so.  The woman will either get on birth controll or get fixed.

We are not China  [YET ] but people that have children just to in rich themselves through the government is turning woman into breeding stock, valued by the offspring they deliver.

The more laws put in place to shield and protect woman that have the right to birth or not is  to place woman into the category of a young heifer.----She is a good breeder, we will not eat her.

The more sons she brings into the world, the more cannon fodder in times of the draft.

HUH?

And here for the last few days I've been thinking that vesta's writing has gotten much more intelligible, I can actually understand what she's talking about, AND it has something to do with the topic at hand.  And then, this gem of wisdom flows across my vision, and I have to retract everything I would have said before I say it.

Are you saying that people have a right to demand that WE, through the government, support their dietary needs?  And have you ever seen the foods that someone is required (yes, required) to purchase on WIC?  Anyone who has ever shopped for groceries knows that when you buy 26 oz of cereal, 2 cans of juicy juice, cheese and evaporated milk, you have a WIC check.  OTOH, you can buy anything cold/unprepared on food stamps.  I've seen people buy live lobsters, others buying a can of soda and lemon extract to mix in with it and get drunk, still others walk into a store with 5 kids, hand each a $1 stamp and tell them to go buy a snack.  They collect the change and buy cigarettes.

Food stamps are not a bad thing, but too many people have the notion that "the world owes them a living".

Ah, but see, after they drop off the rolls with no job, they aren't counted in the unemployment figures, and miraculously, the unemployment numbers will go DOWN, despite more and more out of work...kinda like how we can lose 300K more jobs and still see a 0.1 percent drop like we did last month.

Wrong generation Doc, there was no such thing as WIC when my tribe were coming up.

I do remember a neighbor years ago selling me 2 gallons of milk she had from WIC in order to buy toilet paper.

I do not think food stamps are the taire out kind anymore, I believe people get a card like a credit card.

One can not blame the people receiving the stamps for making bad choices on how to spend the food money----Just how well does the government spend its money ???

Food Stamps should be for food, not candy, soda, or cookies.  Limits should be for meat, vegetables, dairy products, bread, prepared meals and pasta products.

Sad to watch the elderly buying Oolders of Noodles and 12 packs of Ramen, boxes of Mac & cheese, just add water and oil.  Eggs, 2 or 3 dozen of them a week, cheapest protein they can find and canned beans,.

It is difficult to change a life long diet, Asians become ill if they don't have their rice and Yankees eat potatoes 3 times a day--Take dairy products completely out of the American diet and add it to the diet of a those from South East Asia and the Asians will become ill lactose intollerent----There children can adjust to milk products if given at birth----or so they tell me.

Ever wonder Doc why when you travel abroad and fall ill say a gall bladder attack, in some country's the doctors have never seen that ailment because of diet of the people.

Now about that soda and Lemon extract making one get a buzz on, this is really weird. I know street people use to drink Sterno and some idiots of my generation smoked banana peels but never have I heard of that concoction.

What makes me sick is standing in line behind someone in line who whips out their food stamps and then loads all of their groceries into brand new cars and their children are running around with more gold on them then I have in my jewelry box. :banghead:

I use to do my blind/disabled aunt's shopping.  I would use her FS debit-type card to pay for her groceries.  I would then load her goods into my new Lincoln Town Car for delivery.  I can only guess what folks were saying about me.

Yes, I would have gladly paid for all my aunt's needs out of my own pocket.  I did so often.  It was hard to deal with the idea that my aunt thought her FS made her independent.  She insisted that she "pay" for her own groceries.

That is so differant I mean people who are getting food stamps because they want expensive "toys" not for someone helping out a family member.

That generation Lord has a thing that is becoming very rare today, it is called dignity.

Half a century of hard work and something comes along that puts them behind a rock and a hard place.  They can loose their life savings, their homes, their health, but no one can take their dignity away.

Family wants to help but they refuse, it is their job to help the family as they have for over 50 years.  If and when they need say the lawn cut, they call family and PAY them, they would never accept unpaid help from their family.

This generation has the old appearance thingie, they will never appear outside their homes unless they are dressed just so, the little old men have button down shirts and pressed trousers just to mow the lawn.  The older Lady's would not answer the door to a salesman without putting on a dab of lipstick.  I just love the old Lady's with lipstick on their teeth.

Your Aunt is no different from anyone in that generation, she and they payed taxes for years and now they feel like they just banked the money and it is theirs.

For anyone to become disabled and blind is unimaginable, but with all she has lost, she still has her dignity. God Bless Her.

It wasn't do to enemy fire, it was due to ****ing DRUGS!!!!!!!!!! Heroin was rampant! His wife shot him thru the neck while they were high!!!!!!!!!!

As far as your comment about WIC, you're full of shit! How old are you? I'm 56 and WIC was available when I had kids back in the '70's! There was something available real close to it for my parents in the '60's, when Papa was out of work for 6 mos! There has always been a way to take care of your family if you actually give a damn about them!

Don't let idiots like vesta rile you so.  They aren't worth the effort.
