Star Member redstatebluegirl (11,924 posts)I had dinner last night with a very progressive friend of mine. She heavily supported Bernie and "reluctantly" voted for Biden. She loves AOC and the other members of the squad. We normally agree to disagree until last night. She proceeded to tell me that she and her group of progressive friends would not vote in 2024 if Biden or one of his "minions" were at the top of the ticket. Needless to say we had a pretty heated discussion, as heated as you can have in a restaurant. She told me it was her opinion that the system needed to be completely blown up or no real change would occur (her big thing is student loan forgiveness and universal healthcare). We have been friends since college when we were routinely protesting on campus. Right now I'm not sure I want to see her again.I used to be considered a progressive, but not in today's world. I guess I am one of those nasty moderates who think if we don't win we can't change anything. I also believe in democracy and our republic, it doesn't always give me what I want all the time but it beats the hell out of the alternative.https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216832214

Be a crying shame if another story popped up about the militant revolutionary who went to dinner and found their long time friend wasn't as "committed to the cause" as they had believed.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
